What happened?,

I like listening to Chris Cornell, and I like listening to Timbaland, so when I heard that Cornell had made an album that Timbaland produced, I thought, "Great! Two of my faves brought together." I couldn't figure out why so many fans were upset, particularly with Cornell...the reaction was so bad that none of our local DJs would play any of these tracks on the radio.I fnally got around to listening to the album (on a music site), and the only track I liked was Scream. Cornell's voice is amazing on the album & I thought many of the lyrics were good too, but there is just too much Timbaland on the album, and not enough Cornell. I ended up buying the MP3 of Scream because it was more of Cornell, but even Scream had a section where Timbaland is talking over the music. Ugh. Scream is a song about a guy in a hostile relationship, if you were wondering about the song itself. I think it would have been better as an acoustic done by Cornell, and zero Timbaland. I do give props to Cornell for trying something new, and Timbaland is a good producer, but I just couldn't get into this album, aside form the one track, Scream.

I love Soundgarden so I knew I would love Chris Cornell's solo album and it definitely delivers! There is a great variety of songs on this album and they all flow very well into each other. It's a fantastic mix of melodies and power that I can listen to start to finish any day. This album will not disappoint! My only issue is that the tracks are cut awkwardly where one song begins at the end of another, so if you skip to a song, say track 5, it is already maybe 20-40 seconds into the song because the first part of the song is at the end of track 4. I hope that makes sense... The album sounds fine if you listen straight through, but otherwise you miss some of the beginning, and have extra at the end of all of the songs. I'm not sure if I got a fluke, but it was a download so...I'm not sure if it was intentionally cut this way or not.Other than that, I have no qualms with this album and will continue to listen to it regularly! It's fantastic for anyone that already loves Chris Cornell's amazing vocals. |
