Book Description

Military Power June 15, 2007

Formed at the beginning of World War II, the 101st Airborne Division has fought in almost every major conflict since then, including Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom. Going from a parachute and glider infantry in its early days to an air assault division in our own--the only one in the world--the "Screaming Eagles" are trained to destroy enemy forces while seizing land and resources. They are a rapid deployment group prepared to go anywhere in the world within thirty-six hours. And, for good reason, they are probably the best-known army division in the world.

In this book, top military photographer and former U.S. Army Ranger Russ Bryant takes you inside the 101st Airborne. In training and in action, on land and in the air: Here are the Screaming Eagles as youve never seen them, in a close-up, multi-faceted portrait of courage and skill as a fact of everyday life. The book brilliantly illustrates why the 101st Airborne is the vanguard in its field--and in the world.

Book Description

Top military photographer and former U.S. Army Ranger Russ Bryant takes you inside the 101st Airborne.  In powerful pictures and text, his book portrays the “Screaming Eagles,” the world’s only air assault division, a rapid deployment group trained to destroy enemy forces while seizing land and resources.  In training and in action, on land and in the air:  Here are the Screaming Eagles as you’ve never seen them, in a close-up, multi-faceted portrait of courage and skill as a fact of everyday life.  The book brilliantly illustrates why the 101st Airborne is the vanguard in its field--and in the world.

From the Back Cover

The 101st Airborne Division has fought in almost every major conflict since it was formed at the beginning of World War II, including Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom. Starting as a parachute and glider infantry force during World War II, the division became a helicopter-borne, air assault division in Vietnam. Today the “Screaming Eagles” are specially trained to use their rotary-wing mobility to seize key terrain while maneuvering to defeat enemy forces. They are the world’s only air assault division and a rapid deployment unit prepared to go anywhere on the planet within thirty-six hours.

In Screaming Eagles: 101st Airborne Division, former U.S. Army Ranger Russ Bryant and his wife Susan, along with a number of the military’s top photographers, take you inside the 101st Airborne. In training and in action, on land and in the air, here are the Screaming Eagles as you’ve never seen them before. This close-up, multi-faceted portrait also profiles numerous Medal of Honor recipients who exemplify the courage and skill of this division.

Their unique battlefield mobility and high level of training have kept the Screaming Eagles in the vanguard of America’s land combat forces in Afghanistan and Iraq, and their rapid deployability ensures that the division will remain in the forefront of future battles.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rendezvous with Destiny., June 5, 2011
This review is from: Screaming Eagles: 101st Airborne Division (Military Power) (Paperback)
Fortunately, I dont need a book with pictures to tell me about the 101st. Ive got all the memories (good and bad) in my head from when I was serving with the 101st. Im a veteran of 1st Brigade 3rd BN /327th INF regt (before it became a Cav unit). I had been with the 101st for a collection of 5 years. I was there for the invasion of Iraq in 2003 and that 15 month "surge" in 2007. That SUCKED. Unfortunately, I cant really ever tell anyone that because all I got when I did was that I didnt serve back in World War 2 with the "Greatest Generation". Sorry. I wasnt born back then to fight the Nazis. Either way I dont care. I served unlike most of my generation and I did what they will never do other than in Call of Duty on their xbox or ps3. Ha ha. So this book can tell those kinds of people what I never will say or be able to since Im not part of the "Greatest Generation". This book has pics from WW2 to the present day wars in Afghanistan and the Iraq deployments.
