5.0 out of 5 stars Great Work!
Screaming Masterpiece is an awesome documentary about the current music scene in Iceland. There's no need to have a history about it because almost all of the artists use their roots and ancestry as their main influences. For such a small island country Iceland has hundreds of different bands that make many different genres of music that all still relate to each other...

3.0 out of 5 stars A Decent Review of Icelandic Notables
If you happen to already be interested in some Icelandic artist(s) and/or are interested in the culture of Iceland itself, then this short documentary is a decent acquisition for $15. I wished it were more in depth (and thus longer); I mean, they run through about 25 artists rather quickly, but it's a nice, compact sneak-peak at everything if that's all you're looking...

Even if you are not devoted to alternative music or music videos, this one will get your attention thanks to marvelous cinemaphotography and outstanding editing. Then there's Iceland and Bjork as a backdrop. Buy now before it goes out of print. The soundtrack CD of this production is OK, but the video has five times more impact.

Saw a copy of it at a friend's place and borrowed it. It's so cool, I had to get my own. One of the best music docs I've seen! Good soundtrack too. It's really fun to watch the Icelanders making music with saws, hammers and nails. Bjork is by far not the only talent up there. Sigur Ros' opening in New York is brilliant!!

Indeed a masterpiece! This is a wonderful documentary on the music scene in Iceland. Going through all of the genres of music, from ambient to punk to hip hop to classical, there is something for everyone. There are interesting interviews with several bands/performers and amazing performances! On top of that, the top notch cinematography and editing perfectly compliment the mood. The people over in Iceland are certainly doing it right, and this dvd shows it!

one of the best pieces I've seen showcasing Iceland, and no doubt as it should, through it's rich music scene. For such a small population, the level and quality of music it puts out is truly astounding. I would LOVE to live here for a year or two.

Great documentary... well, it has a lot of music to call it a documentary, you can really understand how special and unique are Icelandic musical roots and how this amazing musicians create their pieces of work being their own, despite they're very unknown to most of the world (except for Björk, Sigur Ros and a few more). Very inspiring too, if you've ever wanted to do music. Very satisfied, I couldn't have gotten it at local stores.

4.0 out of 5 stars Screaming decent documentary, February 14, 2010

If you're looking for a decent documentary on the music scene in Iceland, "Screaming Masterpiece" is it. Appart from the seemingly-endless begining credits, the db5.1 sound and cinematography are pretty darn good.

Personally, I found the interviews (mostly in Icelandic, naturally) to be very interesting. Although each segment did tend to come off as abreviated, all in all this is a very well made film.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good introduction, but only an introduction., May 9, 2009

I basically agree with K. Dorsey's earlier review. This doc is certainly enjoyable and put together well, but it's an extremely brief and shallow introduction. In the vast majority of cases we get only brief fragments of performances. The experience is a little like listening to preview clips on Amazon Music, but with visuals. Somewhat frustratingly, the major exception to this is Björk. I adore Björk, but she's already a well-known international star and I'd rather hear and see some of the lesser-known artists.

I'm glad I've seen this - I'm highly motivated to track down some more music from some of these artists. So, as a promo vid for the Icelandic music scene, it's a success. As a documentary, it's a bit underwhelming.
