5.0 out of 5 stars Seen in Paris with The Rakes ... HUGE !!!, November 26, 2005
This review is from: For Screening Purposes Only (Audio CD)
3 dudes from the London area ( i met the guitarist in London so i guess that might be where they're from; at least from England). Saw them in Paris playing before The Rakes and whatever other band; (forgot ... all i remember is them). I don't wanna plunge into the details, won't label this group. It's definitly rock just not only; If you're into contemporary music this album is incredible you'll want it ! If you like The Rakes, The Strokes, Stuck In The Sound, Block Party, The Boxer Rebellion, Interpol and even other harder-better-faster-stronger-cheaper rock this is simply one step above ... HUGE !!!

4.0 out of 5 stars beautiful noise, December 24, 2010

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Test Icicles, lovely Punk Rock from Leeds, England, made by then-teenagers who unfortunately broke up pretty much immediately after they created this album. A shame, too, because this album is quite good, with two REALLY good tracks, "Circle, Square, Triangle" and "Boa vs. Python", and both their styling and their high energy music clearly influenced later bands, like Canadian "happy hardcore" band Fake Shark, Real Zombie, who are also quite excellent (and still around).

4.0 out of 5 stars Cool Songs!, July 5, 2010
Circle Square Triangle (Album Version) is easily the best song in this album, wish they would stick to this kind of style because their voices fit right in with this particular style. But overall it is a solid album; hope they continue to produce some more. Also if anyone knows how to get in contact with these guys; Let them know to put their latest stuff on Last.FM I and the rest of us will be listening.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Refreshing!, June 22, 2007
By
This album is a very original and great sounding! Throughout the tracks there are so many different sounds and genres put together, But mostly it sounds very grungy and hardcore with a dancy-ness to it. I reccomend this to anyone who likes very energetic music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting!, July 22, 2006
It's such a shame that this band split up! I've been meaning to review this album for a while and only finally just got around to it!
On first listen I couldn't quite come to terms with their sound, all sorts of genre mashing going on led to an initially confusing first listen. After many plays though this has become one of my favourite albums of the past year and I've probably played it more than any cd I've bought in the last 6 months!
It's really refreshing to hear a lively, original and essentially angsty UK rock band at long last, so many of the recent flood of UK bands exporting their sound the US just reference the usual classic UK bands, but there's a lot more going on here, infact a lot of american punk influences but reinterpreted with a unique british sound.
As I said before, such a shame this band split up and also such a shame their infamous manic live shows didn't really arrive on US soil.
For anyone who wants to hear something a little different I urge you to buy this.
Let's hope the post test icicles spin off bands 'RATATTAGG' and 'Lightspeed Champion' can hurry up and fill the gap the Icicles left behind.

4.0 out of 5 stars Arctic Monkeys?! What?!, July 17, 2006
Okay, let's get something straight. This band sounds NOTHING like the Arctic Monkeys. Seriously, you can't compare the two. It's like comparing Belle & Sebastian to the Sex Pistols. Both of these bands have british accents, but it's a little less annoying with Test Icicles. I don't know what is going on with this freakin british accent music craze...with Art Brut and Arctic Monkeys, but really, if this is considers one of the albums in that genre, then this is by far the best one.

This album has energy and good screaming. As much as I think I could put it better then that, that's really the first thing that comes to mind. It's not over produced, it's raw, which is another quality I like in my music. The song titles are fun and so are the lyrics.

I think you will like it. It grew on me pretty fast.

4.0 out of 5 stars Oi! Blood Brother, March 6, 2006
HAHA, this band already broke up and they are pretty prickish for releasing such a neat CD then bailing but whatever ... yeah it sounds sorta like a British Blood Brothers mixed with the Artic Monkeys, so a cool combination!!! The songs make you want to dance and rock out and they spew lyrics just as random as this reviewer is, but because they are from across the pond, it seems more credible. Then again, if you drink enough Bodigntons, then anything English sounds intelligent, but this band really is something cool ... and they aren't all white either which is refreshing to listen to some hard music that isn't all just pale white boys with make-up on. HOWEVER, they are from britian, so the 2/3 of the band that are white are VERY pale, but its not their fault that there is no sun or UV rays in the Queen's country. On a final note, I hope this review inspires you to buy this CD, listen to the samples then dive into this, it takes a while to make sense of the songs but once they stick they grow on you and then you are hooked ... Oi!!!
