4.0 out of 5 stars Great book for reference, but even better for the contacts
This book is the update edition to the 2009 verison with the same title. This book has all the same tips and points that all screenwriting books will have but this one has almost entries by agents and managers and what they are looking for. Some of us get tired of one screenwriter selling one script and then writing a book on how to make it BIG. This puts it all aside...

3.0 out of 5 stars Seems under-researched
While this book offers many good tips and resources, the pages for contests and agencies seem woefully under-prepared or out of date. Many of the contests have the same information from the 2009 book with no new updates for the current year. As to the Manager and Agency listings, while the book certainly provides a number of them - the information often seems inadequate...

This review is from: 2010 Screenwriter's & Playwright's Market (Paperback)
While this book offers many good tips and resources, the pages for contests and agencies seem woefully under-prepared or out of date. Many of the contests have the same information from the 2009 book with no new updates for the current year. As to the Manager and Agency listings, while the book certainly provides a number of them - the information often seems inadequate and spotty. Why does the book say it is acceptable to send queries to one place, only to find that on the agency's website they explicitily state no queries, no submissions, no exceptions? There seems to be a lack of research, follow-up, or whatever it may be, that would provide the writer with all the information they need. Given that, I'm just not sure I trust the accuracy of all that is included in this book.

From the writing experts at Writer's Digest, this book is a must-have for anyone who wants to write and sell stage plays and screenplays. They cover some simple how-tos but mostly the book tells you exactly who is buying what you have to sell and how to reach them. One of my favorite sections is the contest section where you can find nationally known writing contests and win money and production for your product. If you want to write plays and movies, don't miss this.

A good overall view of the business side of starting a career in writing plays. Lists agents and how to contact them plus contests and interviews.
