Book Description

November 1, 2011
Mark Teller was living on welfare in January of 2006. He had worked for himself all of his life. He had never even written a resume. Eighteen months later he cashed $8,100 in a single week, mostly from Fortune 500 companies. Teller created an imaginary job history, invented skills, and talked his way into top-paying jobs that others might only dream about. His courage, optimism and dark humor provide a compelling tale of how to succeed in corporate America when the odds are stacked against you.

Amazing True Story

Learn to:
  • Find things you're good at and turn them into "expertise"
  • Create a resume from little or no job history, and sail it past the recruiter
  • Wow interviewers and get hired
  • Beware of the warning signs of malicious recruiters and their bag of tricks
  • Avoid runaway jobs that never materialize
  • Get the best money for your time, even while everyone is trying to gang-bang you
  • Turn a two-week assignment into $75,000 in easy cash
  • "Stack" three jobs without suffering a stroke or heart attack (at least temporarily)
  • Get along with your bureaucratic "cubie" mates (Mr. Teller speaks from failure)
  • Avenge yourself upon the recruiter and their idiot clients if they mistreat you
  • Be at peace with yourself for the stuff you had to do to get by (this is a work in progress)
If you ever applied for work and then:
  • Never heard back
  • Were told that you were not qualified,
even though you thought you were a shoo-in
  • Took the phone interview and then got turned down
  • Interviewed in person and did not get hired
  • Were told you would be hired but never got the job
...this book will help you understand what went wrong. You may have failed to get past the recruiter, the idiot gatekeeper who stands in your way, defying your worst expectations with their laziness, stupidity and flat-out greed.
Teller finds out the hard way and also shares in how to beat the indifference that prevents you from getting the job you deserve. Join him on a rocket-booster ride form welfare to $8,100 per week in a year and a half.

Buy it, read it, follow it!
Author Mark Teller delivers a one-two knockout punch with this painfully honest and oh so timely sojourn into the world of employment and unemployment. Mr. Teller dares not bore his readers with political correctness, but instead provides a passionate, no holds barred voice for everything we have wanted to say to Corporate America, especially now. Not usually one to sail through an entire book in one sitting, I dropped anchor and in the wee hours, turned the last page of this easy to read, entertaining and informative journalistic delight! -- D Shelton (Dana Point, CA)

Fascinating!
Using an irreverent tone throughout, Teller traces the ups and downs of his job search, with stories of sleazy recruiters and incompetent bosses that would seem unbelievable if they weren't so commonplace in corporate America. Along the way, Teller gives some excellent pointers for job seekers. Should you lie on a resume to get a foot in the door? You betcha, as long as you can get away with it like he did. You may question some of Teller's ethics, but you'll never question what a great read this is. --C. W. Sherwood (Southern California)

I highly recommend this quick and entertaining book!
Mark Teller writes about his experience conveying his dark humor and wit in every chapter. He reaches into his soul and shares his humiliation, then WOWS the reader with his triumphs over the absurdities he faced as he was forced to work with numerous inept recruiters and supervisors. I found myself on the edge of every page as I anticipated what his next challenge would be and how he would solve it.....reading this book is so much better than watching the APPRENTICE! Mark brings to the reader's attention how insidious incompetence is and how it affects all of us by chiseling away at our mental health and on the macro level OUR ECONOMY. I wonder how many of the business owners that went under in Santa Cruz ended up collecting food stamps. This book has given me new insight into my own job market search, so now I am off to CREATE my own resume.... and CREATE my future. I feel the sense of adventure in my search for a job now ....this book is empowering! (J Chase, Soquel, CA)

It's everything you wanted to say to Corporate America but never had the guts! Whether you're looking for resume or interview tips, or just want to take a load off your stressful day... Screw the Recruiter is a great read! --Liz Reiner (New York NY)

4.0 out of 5 stars Wow! Clearly states the American Climate Career Search, December 19, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Screw the Recruiter (Paperback)
I found this book to reflect the climate in America today. Unethical, shady and immoral. But I enjoyed the pure honesty of the entire book. Does my review seem mixed, read the book and you will see what I mean. A must read. If you need to get a job by any means necessary this book is the template. It will show you what you do.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good writing, interesting story, clever tips, January 6, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book sort of took me by surprise. The writing type is one of a story but as I'm reading it, I'm also learning a thing or two about the in and outs of resume writing and interviewing techniques. I like the author's sense of humor too, I wasn't expecting to be smirking and laughing while I read, but you get caught off guard with this style of writing.

His work experience is completely different from mine, he does some kind of computer programming or something like that. So, when the he talks about specific aspects of his resume, a certain type of software program for example, I'm totally lost. But I do like how when he's going over why he put this text in his resume, he explains the rationale behind his reasoning for it. If you appreciate witty humor , you'll enjoy reading this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars So Much Better than What Color is Your Parachute, January 26, 2011
This review is from: Screw the Recruiter (Paperback)
If you liked What Color is your Parachute you'll love Screw the Recruiter. Without the highschool guidance couseler angle, Mark Teller actually tells it how it is. We've all wondered what we can and cannot get away with when it comes to lying on a resume or in an interview. But it's a fine line. By knowing the ins and outs of the system you can work your way into the position you want. In Screw the Recruiter, Teller will show you how to back it all up.

Not sparing an ounce of sarcasm Mark Teller walks you through his experience getting a job with no resume, and the ups and downs he experienced until he was finally bringing home the type of money most people can only dream about. Whether you're looking for a job or not Screw the Recruiter is a must read.
