5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent customer service
I bought one of these 10 years ago. It broke 9 years and 10 months into a 10 year warranty. I took a picture of the broken unit (and receipt) and emailed it to the company. They told me to send the unit back and issued a return authorization. I did and they replaced it with a brand new unit. No problem, no quibble. They honored the warranty and I'm back drinking my wine...

1.0 out of 5 stars Dissapointing
The unit worked well for a short while after I received it as a gift. I soon learned that the teflon on the screw is ruined if you pull anything other than real corks. Plastic corks remove the teflon and thus the workability of the unit. I used it for about 100 bottles and the whole unit snapped in two. So much for an expensive gadget.

but now it also is

with the resultant drop in quality. Some surprise there. Is nothing sacred anymore?

I'd looked at alternatives and could readily see the difference in quality, but experiencing great backing of the product is what really impressed me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yes, it really does live up to all the hype, June 19, 2008

We went to a party several years ago where the host had a Screwpull. Before the night was over, people were opening bottles of wine just to get a chance to see the Screwpull in action. Yes, it really does live up to all the hype. If you've ever struggled to get a bottle of wine open with a traditional screw type opener, or if you've ever had to pick bits of cork out of your wine, you will love this opener. It truly makes opening bottles of wine effortless. The minute I got home from the party that night, I got online and ordered one. I have never regretted it, nor the price I had to pay. It was worth every penny. Don't believe it? Even my 72 year old arthritic mother-in-law has no problem opening bottles of wine! If you don't believe me, order one for yourself and give it a try, you can always send it back (but I'm betting you won't!) Oh, and the next time you host a party, be sure to put your best bottles of wine in a safe place!

Teflon coating wears thin after use making extraction difficult. A spare is included and does not last very long. A metal gear broke on mine which is inconceivable for an opener that cost $99. Of course it was out of warranty. Not worth the money.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the money!!, November 28, 2011
This review is from: Screwpull Lever Model Classic Lever Gift Set (Kitchen)
I received my first Screwpull nearly 10 years ago as a gift. It lasted five years and then broke in half at the metal housing through which the corkscrew is threaded. I purchased another and it lasted 2 1/2 years before it broke in half at the same place. Thinking maybe I had purchased a lemon, I tried again but this time, the device only lasted 18 months before it broke (same place, same story). Great idea here, but poor execution and quality control.

It stopped working correctly about the 5th time I used it. When I pulled up on the lever the corkscrew spun out of the cork rather than extracting the cork. When you spend over $80 for a corkscrew you expect it to work!!

Made of plastic, although it works fairly well, the plastic on the pull handle bends somewhat when you use it; similarly, the handles that allow you to hold the screwpull in place have too much give and the entire piece seems rather cheap for such an extraordinary price. After having this for a month, I saw a solid steel screwpull available in a store for fifty dollars. Get the steel version and pay less, is my advice. The handles should clamp down on the bottle solidly and without give, and removing the cork by pulling the handle should be easy and shouldn't make you worry that the pull handle will break, which it does on this model. Very, very overpriced. Look solid in this picture, but isn't.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beats Metrokane Hands Down, December 14, 2008

I previously purchase a "Metrokane Rabbit Corkscrew with Foilcutter, Silver". Save your money. The Screwpull is well worth the extra $20-$30 dollars. My Metrokane failed (the cap that holds the screw starting popping off every time I open a bottle) after less than a year. In addition, it had trouble pulling most "tight" cork and the screw quickly wore out. The Screwpull is a dream in comparison. As others have stated, the long handle results in easy, smooth pulls and the foil cutter that was included is the best I've every used.

This is a light, well made opener that i hope will last longer than the cheap 15 dollar one I bought that worked the same way until it failed (I had it 3 years). It is easy to use, virtually foolproof, and by far the best wine bottle opener out there. Pricey but I hope that the quality is there for the long run. I'd rather spend the money up front rather than have to spend it again later for a cheap unit that doesn't work well.
