Book Description

April 1, 2012
A beautiful and hilarious new book of artwork from the star of The Mighty Boosh

Noel Fielding's book channels the creative influences of Henri Rousseau, Roy Lichtenstein, and Salvador Dalí, through the comedian's strange, singular, and surreal mind. Hilarious and beautifully produced, this is a visual feast which will delight and entertain Noel's many impassioned fans.

"Growing up in the jungles of India there was no need for drawing or painting. I would sometimes arrange ants into primitive still lives or scratch out portraits onto the trunks of trees. Things changed when I was 11, a lame tiger who owned a stationery shop gave me the keys to his stock room, I would roll around in acrylic and oil pastels in reverie, licking canvases and tucking coloured pencils into my wild hair. It was here I learned how to draw and paint well enough to be accepted into Croyden Art College. There, Dexter Dalwood (Turner Prize nominee) taught me and after two years under his supreme tutelage and much hard graft he advised me to become a comedian." —Noel Fielding

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Fielding's visual art is not a million miles away from the disturbing world of Nabootique he and Barratt create in The Mighty Boosh and it's no surprise that his depictions of talking crocodiles, Mick Jagger and disturbing fox-men—Matt Groening meets Hieronymous Bosch—have become highly prized collectibles."  —Evening Standard

"The boy can paint. What's more, his offbeat, pop-art pictures are seriously commercial. Stylistically, it's somewhere between Henri Rousseau and Tov Jansson, creator of The Moomins."  —Independent

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it! April 29, 2012
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I love this book. I did not really know what it was when I ordered online, I'm a fan of Fielding's and it seemed fun and a treat. It's a fun book, a coffee table book. Every page is completely different with a sneak preview into Fielding's mind and imagination, and it certainly is a colourful and weird place. I like to open a page randomly and dissect it for a while, some make you smile and others just make you say, "This man is on drugs." It's not a fine arts book, and I am no art connoisseur, but you don't buy it for the art although there is good technique, rather more just the ideas transcended through it. It does demonstrate a lot of hard work and careful observation. A lot of hours have gone into making this book and you cannot help but indulge in it.
If you get the particular Boosh comedy it certainly is a plus, but I think most people with an open mind and appreciation for humour and individuality will love flicking through the pages of this book. It inspires me to strive for something unique and non-traditional, what this book certainly is not. Great add to my library. And it blows my mind periodically.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's Noel January 1, 2013
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is Noel's soul basically spread into a book. You have to be careful with the pages though because the paper is thin. The hard cover is puffy which is kinda cool.
