I was very very disappointed that the luminous mysteries were not attached to the book. They just took a rubber band and wrapped it around the new mysteries and attached it to the back of the book. I would never buy from this company again. I felt that I had been taken!

5.0 out of 5 stars Connection of Scripture with the prayer of the Church, April 4, 2000
By A Customer
I like this book or booklet if you will. So many times our prayer can become like the "Words of the Worried", just trying to hold on to the moment by repetition. The Scriptural Rosary tends to make it easier to slow down and be in the moment of prayer. Even as the Rosary was a rote prayer for those who could not read in the past, this additional incorporation of Scripture allows for prayer and memorization over time of familiar verses. It keeps the Church's book alive along with the scriptural prayer that the Rosary is in itself. I hope that many will have the chance to pray this devotion in reflection. As the intercession of Mary is significant, prayers become more significant, prayerful members of God's faithful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Serious catholic readers will enjoy this book., February 8, 1999
By A Customer
This book provides insight into the history of the rosary, as well a rosary structured around relevant scripture. The scripture is written to help enhance the meaning of the Mysteries. The book helped me to again start praying the rosary by making it even more meaningful and alive. The book's very small size and hardcover binding makes it easy to travel with you wherever you go. A real treasure.

A beautiful little book that will add focus and insight to the mysteries of the rosary. It includes a short history of the rosary and a Scripure verse for each Hail Mary that will help you concentrate on the mystery at hand. Particularly suited to Catholic converts.

This book is a wonderful aid for concentrating when praying the Rosary. If you get easily distracted or forget which Mystery you are on, this book is definitely for you! Also, new copies of this book do include the Luminous Mysteries inside the book, instead of being in a separate pamphlet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Praying the Rosary in the Spirit of Pope John Paul II, November 4, 2010
This review is from: Scriptural Rosary (English) (Hardcover)
This is a gem that has been around a long time. I knew about this long before Amazon.com. It is also the kind of book that you tend to always keep handy. It fits into just about anything, making it easy to carry. It is hardcover, with a strong binding, and can survive years of daily use. The dust jacket too is very durable.

One of the aspects of praying the Rosary that is frequently missed is that this is called to be a meditative prayer. In October 2002, Pope John Paul II, wrote Rosarium Virginis Mariae: Apostolic Letter on the Most Holy Rosary, as his testimony on this precious gift to the Church. In it he explains many of the aspects that might escape us about the saying of the Rosary. One of them is the use of Sacred Scripture, and a possible methodology that could be used with it. I am sure many of you are already familiar with this, those of you who have said the Scriptural Rosary. Of the recommendations he offers, I will mention just two.

The first is: "Listening to the word of God." In order to supply a Biblical foundation and greater depth to our meditation, it is helpful to follow the announcement of the mystery with the proclamation of a related Biblical passage, long or short, depending on the circumstances. No other words can ever match the efficacy of the inspired word. As we listen, we are certain that this is the word of God, spoken for today and spoken "for me." If received in this way, the word of God can become part of the Rosary's methodology of repetition ... not a matter of recalling information but of allowing God to speak.

The second is "Silence." Listening and meditation are nourished by silence. After the announcement of the mystery and the proclamation of the word, it is fitting to pause and focus one's attention for a suitable period of time on the mystery concerned, before moving into vocal prayer. A discovery of the importance of silence is one of the secrets of practicing contemplation and meditation. One drawback of a society dominated by technology and the mass media is the fact that silence becomes increasingly difficult to achieve. ...In the recitation of the Rosary it is fitting to pause briefly after listening to the word of God, while the mind focuses on the content of a particular mystery.

There is much more explained in the above Apostolic Letter, but suffice it to say, the Scriptural Rosary provides a great resource for beginning or continuing to pray the rosary in this way. So you may see an example, I have shared the images of the verses involved in praying the mystery of the Annunciation. FYI: It is also available from Christianica in many different languages and a version in Audio CD too: Scriptural Rosary 2-CD Set. These are all highly recommended. These are also great gifts.

One of the great benefits to praying this way is that the Scriptural verses gradually become committed to memory.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rediscover your love of the Rosary, March 12, 2009
This review is from: Scriptural Rosary (English) (Hardcover)
I bought this little book on a whim years ago in a Catholic store in Rome, and it's turned out to be one of the most useful purchases I've ever made. I pray with it all the time. It makes a wonderful gift for anyone -- whether they're new to the Rosary or sick of the Rosary!

Customarily, the Rosary is prayed without scriptural meditation or, if it is, the scripture passage is read before each decade. If you're like me, it is easy to get distracted and lose sight of the actual Mystery you're supposed to be concentrating on. Christianica's "Scriptural Rosary" is modeled on a medieval method of praying the Rosary -- it divides up the readings so that you read one verse before each Hail Mary. Believe me, it makes all the difference in the world! Praying this way has helped me appreciate the Mysteries so much more.

(Yes, the Luminous Mysteries are included -- and, yes, they even have Scripture verses for the Assumption and the Coronation of the Blessed Virgin!)

The Rosary isn't supposed to be mindless repetition -- it's supposed to be a meditation on the life of Christ! If, for you, the Rosary tends to be rote recitation, your prayer could stand to benefit a great deal from this book.

It's not perfect, to be sure. The illustrations for each mystery aren't very good. And I wouldn't have chosen some of the verses that they did. For example, the Wedding at Cana suddenly jumps from being basically a meditation on the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary to a meditation on Christ's teaching on the indissolubility of marriage. But all in all, it's helped me a great deal, and I recommend it constantly to others. Strangely enough, as far as I can tell, this book has no competition -- there's nothing else like it. Maybe it's because the Scriptural Rosary method isn't well-known. It ought to be!

5.0 out of 5 stars Travel-Size Book, Priceless Aid to Praying the Rosary, September 20, 2010
This review is from: Scriptural Rosary (English) (Hardcover)
This little book-- about the size of an index-card in dimensions, 100 pages
long -- is truly an unexpected treasure.

While it follows the standard twenty Mysteries of the Rosary (a devotion to the Virgin Mary, whose relative importance in Christianity depends on which denomination one follows), it is unique in its inclusion of quotes from Scripture for every bead. Its title then, the Scriptural Rosary, comes from these Biblical quotations woven in to the Rosary, but they are in no way a deviation from the sanctioned devotion.

Its incorporation of Scripture is well-organized, with appropriately selected verses, and it is amazingly effective in helping focus on the scenario in the Mysteries. It helps to make a much more meaningful connection with the prayers than without the added quotations.

Because it puts the Mysteries into context, it solves the monotony that is so easy to fall into when praying devotions like the Rosary. Each set of
Mysteries (Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious and Luminous) takes about 15 minutes to pray -- longer than the Rosary as is-- but it feels shorter! It makes the
prayers true prayers and praises, rather than just rote repition.

Its illustrations are simple in their rondeau setting, yet the figures and scenes portrayed are exquisitely drawn. It also comes in seven different languages, so I have given out many as gifts (English, French, German,
Italian, Polish, Portuguese and Spanish).

This book is as easy to travel with as the beads themselves. It is a must-have companion in praying the Rosary.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent meditation on the gospel, April 11, 2006
By
This review is from: Scriptural Rosary (English) (Hardcover)
The Scriptural Rosary helps bring the different mysteries of our Lord's mission alive to us by inserting a quote from Scripture between each "Hail Mary". This helps one meditate more effectively on the events of our Lord's life. The power of the rosary should not be underestimated, for it is the "chain that binds Satan". As St. Padre Pio would say, "Hand me my weapon." And as the old saying goes, 'mother knows best' so listen to her. Mary loves each one of us as she loves our Lord, for we are her children, so by doing what momma knows is best for us, we are rewarded with great graces and protection in these turbulent times.

This book is excellent. Bought it for someone who is not Catholic and they loved it. It helped them to see that we are asking the Mary to pray for us. Also, they could meditate on the scriptures from the Bible, which helped to show the Blessed Mothers importance in Christ life.

This is a book everyone would enjoy using.
