Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Since the development of movable type in the 15th century, translations of the Bible--whether complete Bibles, one of the two testaments, or individual books--have been published in 2,018 different languages and dialects. This biennial volume is a compilation of statistical information on Bible publication. The data are presented alphabetically, chronologically, and geographically. The first section lists the languages alphabetically, telling for each the year in which the first Bible, testament, or book was published and the primary country and region where the language is used. The chronological section lists the languages according to the year the first Bible or portion was published, from 1456 to December 1992. In the geographical section, the languages are arranged by continent and country, and each entry is keyed to a series of maps. A useful resource for seminary and other theological collections.
