In this third volume in the Clemency Pogue series, the evil changeling Inky Mess, who wants to obtain power over all of Make Believe, tricks Clemency into uncovering a hive of scrivener bees that tattoo helpful information onto Inky's skin. Clever characters, a clearly envisioned world, and a complex story line are in evidence as in the past, but Petty has abandoned his penchant for sly humor hidden in convoluted language, making this episode more comprehensible that previous ones. A tremendous battle sets the stage for further adventures. Give this to readers not yet ready for Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl series. Weisman, Kay
