NEEDS TO BE ON CD NOW!!!!,
By Music Lover "JR" (Islip, NY United States) - See all my reviews

This is the wonderful original soundtrack LP to the 1970 film musical, "Scrooge." It's a gatefold album with lyrics and a few stills from the film inside the album. The album was produced with the idea that stereo separation of the voices can be loads of fun, and in a few cases they have concocted separation that would be laughed at today, but in 1970 it was the norm to do this. The album was produced with an extra layer of reverb not on the actual film's musical tracks, again something done very often back in the 1960's, and some of the songs are edited for a better flow from track to track. I have had the album since it came out, and have loved it very much, but I wish someone would finally put it out on CD. As far as I know, it has never been released on CD, and now would be the perfect time to go back to the original master tracks and restore them using the best equipment available (like the well-done "Fiddler On The Roof" soundtrack remaster from a few years ago). I like the form of the album, my only minor complaints are the excessive use of reverb and the stereo separation issues. Other than that, it's a great album, and I'm sure there are millions of others out there who would love to see this out on CD immediately!

Why isn't Scrooge on CD yet???,
By

I love the Albert Finney musical film "Scrooge", and watch it every single Christmas. I have loved this soundtrack, since I first saw the film almost 40 years ago. The songs are beautiful, as is the film. The film's music was actually nominated for two Academy Awards (Best Score and Best Song--"Thank You Very Much") Why is this not on CD? With many inferior soundtracks in past and current CD release, I simply cannot understand it. Please, please, please, someone give this album the CD release it deserves. Thank you.

Why no CD for this?,
This review is from: Scrooge (Vinyl)
I saw this film on opening weekend when I was a senior in HS. It's my favorite adaptation of the Christmas Carol. I've been waiting for 20 years for this to come out on CD! I wish I knew why it never did. I'll keep checking back here every year hoping to see it!

Still wonderful!,

Looking at the other two reviews her, we all seem to share the same opinion: why hasn't this soundtrack been released on CD???? There is plenty of other garbage that gets re-issued all the time, yet this fine film soundtrack remains available on vinyl only.Tsk! Tsk!
I saw this movie the year it opened at Radio City. For a few years after that it would appear at Christmas for limited showings, mostly at children's matinees. Each year I dragged everyone I knew to see it. I bought the soundtrack. I bought the VHS tape. I bought the DVD. This is a simply marvellous adaptation of "A Christmas Carol" with a standout score by Leslie Bricusse. The Overture set the festive mood and "A Christmas Carol" immediately follows during the opening credits. This is a gorgeous Christmas song performed by a wonderful chorus. Definitely puts you ib the Christmas spirit. There are some great solos for Finney and a lovely ballad "You...You" which he sings from the present to his past love. And then there is the rollicking "Thank You Very Much" which takes up quite a bit of side two. Bricusse was in fine form wriing this score, possibly his finest work ever. Luckily the vinyl edition still sounds sharp and clear and if you convert it to CD as I did it sounds even better. So whoever's listening: Get this soundtrack on a real CD so future generations can ebjoy and thrill to it every year at Christmas as I and it seems so many others do.

My only Must-Have Christmas music,
By
This review is from: Scrooge (Vinyl)
If musicals and Christmas are two of your life's enjoyments then the soundtrack to Scrooge is a must-have. Albert Finney is perfection as Scrooge. The score lends itself sublimely to the mood of this perennial story of redemption. The lyrics are as often bittersweet as they are humorous. I wasn't aware the song "Thank You Very Much" was Oscar nominated, but it surely deserved it. It's one of the highlites of the album. Do you believe in the basic goodness of humanity? Do you love a story that make you laugh and cry at the right moments? Then you must experience the music to this Dickens classic. I agree with the first two reviewers - this should have been remastered and released on CD a long time ago.

This is a great song score, including the Oscar nominated "Thank You Very Much." I can't imagine why it's not available on CD.

A splendid soundtrack - why is this gift of music unavailable?,

I had the original vinyl (33 rpm) from the 1970 film. Sadly, it's lost now, long gone and missing from my scratched-up LP collection. No doubt I lent it to someone who knew a good thing to hold onto when they heard it!
What a marvelous score, every track a Christmas-favorite carol that (now) generations have grown to know and love from seeing the film on TV or DVD. It's so dishearteneing that this wonderful soundtrack isn't available to the consumer. If the CD version were available today, I would 2 dozen of them -- a couple for myself (1 backup copy for me!) and the rest to wrap and give as Christmas gifts for family and friends I've encouraged for 40 years (gulp!) to watch this film. This prodding of friends and family members to embrace this film has resulted in unanimous, melodic "Thank You Very Much!" responses from every one of them. Watch it one time and it's an instant yuletide favorite. People pass along the holiday viewing as a tradition for their kids, grandkids, friends and relatons, much like watching "It's a Wonderful Life." How holiday-sweet it would be to have this available on CD, to listen in your car while driving about to Christmas shop or on a home CD player to enjoy with other cherished Christmas music as you wrap gifts or gather together to open them. I can't believe that someone in the music publishing industry hasn't gotten wise to this obvious lack in the yuletide marketplace. Some bright person needs to remember "December the 25th, my dears, December the 25th." Keeping this Christmas treasure out of reach from the buying public is downright Scrooge-like. Makes me think someone is singing "I Hate People" rather than chorusing along to "Sing a Christmas Carol!" Someone get smart, please; you'd make a sleighful of holiday cash. Thanks for hearing me out. I hope this Christmas clue tips off the right company or person. Please give us the "Father Christmas" we all want to buy and sing along to. - Sincerely, Gevaultski

Yes, WHY hasn't it been put on CD yet? I, too, look every year hopeful. I have the vinyl, but no way to put on CD. This would be a HUGE seller! Why hasn't anyone done anything about his yet?
