not perfect but a good cleaner!,

I hate to clean. I especially hate to clean showers. So when I was invited to test this product for BzzAgent I was thrilled at the prospect of minimizing the hideous job of scrubbing scum out of our shower. I hooked it up and to my glee it actually does what it is designed to do (mostly). I haven't had to scrub the shower floor since I got it (my most hated part of shower cleaning) but I have had to wipe down certain areas of the shower door that the spray misses and in the crevices of the door. All in all I'm pleased but don't expect to never have to clean your shower again (unless you have fairly low cleaning standards LOL). I would buy it again and I'm actually considering buying another for the kids shower. Just an FYI, there have been some good coupons out for this product in the Sunday coupon inserts so look for those!

Works well but very expensive refills,

This product works as well as the spray bottles and it is so much easier remembering to use it. I actually feel like I forgot something everytime I go to the bathroom and forget to push the button and close the shower doors.
The bad part: The refills are expensive. Compared to same sized bottles of Tilex or Shower Fresh, they are about 50% to 75% more expensive. They are actually more expensive than any other bottles at the cleaning isle of the two supermarkets I go to! I would not have purchased it if I knew they were going to get me so bad with the overpriced refills.

Innovative and does the job!,

After watching the many commercials, I was ecstatic about buying the product. Amazon's price is a bit steep compared to the $19.99 I paid at Walgreen's. My package came with the cleaner and 2 refill bottles. I'd suggest looking around at your local Target/Sav-ons/Walgreens for a cheaper price before buying off Amazon.
I just finished my first bottle of the cleaner and I'd have to say that it's done an adequate job of cleaning the stall. Unlike some of the previous reviewers, I have a shower curtain instead of a door and I found that the cleaner worked really well on it. When the cleaner emits its spray, it hits about the bottom 3/4 of your shower walls... not the whole thing. Even though some people were complaining about this... it makes sense. The part that it does spray is the part of your shower that gets wet when you use it... so the cleaner actually cleans the most important part of the stall rather than wasting it on the higher parts that don't accumulate mildew like the bottom half does. The refill bottles can get pretty pricey and the cleansing liquid can be used up pretty fast... make sure you follow the directions and only spritz once each day. I love the clean smell the liquid leaves in my shower and the fact that I don't have to wash the stall as much as I used to. This product is recommended but make sure to shop around for coupons and a lower price at your local drug stores before spending 50 bucks here at Amazon.

Works well, keeps shower clean and fresh smelling,

Works well on getting rid of soap scum and mildew.
Keeps a shower clean and smelling good too. Sprayer does not get to the upper parts, I hand sprayed these parts once a week. Refills are expensive, but I found a generic refill for $1.99, (2 refills in the bottle), total cost was 99 cents per refill. Take the kit off the wall, turn upside down, remove bottle. Pull up on cap as you twist to remove. Fill bottle, put cap on, put back in kit (turn kit upside down to prevent spillage), rehang. Takes at while (six weeks+) to make progress on the soap scum / mildew. Mine got rid of some rust stains too.

Refill it yourself,
This review is from: The Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Shower Cleaner w/3,34oz bottles included
When my wife bought this and told me the refills were $2 or $3, I knew we weren't going to continue using it, as that's highway robbery. The plastic bottle probably costs more than the contents.
But I like the sprayer device, as it pretty thoroughly covers our shower. So I figured out how to refill the bottle with my own concoction. Other recipes would probably work as well. We started with a clean shower and the main use of the device is to add a surfactant to let the water flow off the tile better to reduce spots from our hard water. We also live in a dry area, so mildew isn't a problem. The recipe is as follows. I make it up in a 4 cup Pyrex measuring container. Mix 1 tablespoon of glycerine, 6 oz of isopropyl alcohol, then the remainder is distilled water to make 32 oz. Add in two or three drops of dishwashing soap. You can take the cap off the bottle with a pair of pliers. Then file or grind off the projections on the bottle that are intended to keep the cap on. Throw away the old gasket and make a new one with a 1 inch OD and about a 0.235 inch ID. I had a 1" punch, but I had to make a small punch for the ID -- I turned a short piece of aluminum on the lathe to 0.240" diameter and drilled the ID to 0.201". Most of you won't have these punches, but I'll bet some work with scissors and razor blades will make something that works as well. I made the gasket from an old piece of inner tube, which was about 1/16" thick. The bottom line is that our shower tile stays shiny (there will always be a few spots) and we haven't had to mess with much cleaning. The reason I rated the product 3 stars is that I feel they way overcharge for the refills. But the sprayer device works well and is certainly easy to use.

Really keeps a clean shower clean,
By

When I brought it home the shower was a little (hazmat required) dirty. I was hoping to just put it up and in a few days the shower will be clean - not the case. After 3 days it was apparent that it won't clean a (stand on your tip-toes) dirty shower. So the shower was scrubbed and I decided to force myself to wait at least one full bottle and maybe two before cleaning again...
About six weeks and two bottles later my bathtub/shower was still white and the chrome never lost its shine. Cleaning it was a fairly quick rub down with pine-sol and here I go again, fighting the (non-existent) urge to clean the tub. At the end of the six weeks there was a little build-up under the soap dish, on the far wall and under the spout. The grout isn't too bad to begin with but seemed to improve a little in a few places. Really, I'd say it works well in a tub and likely better in a stall. Don't plan on it cleaning but plan on it keeping a clean shower clean. A quick wipe-down every 3 to 6 weeks would be a reasonable expectation. I agree with the other reviewer, the refills should be available in larger less expensive sizes. Why not design it with a re-fillable reservoir? Cleaning the tub is my least favorite cleaning chore. To have an "always clean" shower for about $25 initial cost and less than $5 each month, well worth it!

Zero stars... waste of money...,

This is a waste of money. We had bought this a while ago with the two refills. It does not cover your ENTIRE shower, it only hits the area where the cleaner streams to. The ONLY good thing about it is it smells nice.
Have you seen the commercial? It shows a bunch of people cleaning at about face height. That is exactly where this system cleans. They don't show them cleaning near the floor and the cleaner doesn't go down that far. Please don't waste your money on this!

The product worked ok directly behind where the cleaner was mounted but didn't reach accross the shower or do anything for the lower portion of the shower. Not worth the investment.

Works pretty well,

I agree with most of the comments here - it works pretty well if you give it a chance. Have to use it every day, and I found that after I gave my shower a really good 'manual' cleaning, the automatic cleaner does a good job of maintaining. I paid $19.99 for my unit and 2 bottles of fluid at Wal-Mart, and it came with a $10.00 coupon for another unit, right after the product first came out. Sounds like they've switched to $5.00 coupons now. I purchased another unit with my $10.00 coupon. My shower is large and has two spray heads, so I use two cleaning units. I fire them both off at the same time every day, and so far my shower has stayed nice and clean, including the clear glass parts. '
For those of you who are uncomfortable with the cost, factor in the time you spend cleaning the shower, or how many times you you get in the shower and wish you HAD cleaned it!

Not perfection - but it's 10 steps in the right direction,
By
This review is from: The Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Shower Cleaner w/3,34oz bottles included
In the master bathroom, I have a stand alone shower with glass sides and a glass door (not frosted). Soap scum is the bane of it's existence. So every week, I spray the shower down with bleach cleaner for the mildew and soap scum remover for the soap scum. It soaks. I might have to reapply. Therefore, when I saw an automated thingamajig on tv that does just about the same thing.. only automated and in one step, I thought I just had to have it.
It comes with everything you need - including batteries and enough cleaner for a month or so. I put it together in a couple of minutes, hung it up and pushed the button. It beeped at me. I thought maybe I had done something wrong. I closed the shower door and picked up the instructions. Then it started cleaning. The beeping is a grace period to get the door shut. I giggled in glee and woke up my husband to inform him that it was in the process of cleaning my shower. He told me I was WAY too excited. I rinsed the shower off (you are supposed to do it when the shower is still wet) and did it again. After all, my shower is starting off with some soap scum on it... it can't hurt to give it an extra burst, can it? Then I stepped back to watch it spray my shower down again. Giggling and hopping up and down all the while. Let me just emphasize. IT CLEANS YOUR SHOWER. AUTOMATICALLY. WITHOUT SCRUBBING. EVERY DAY. After the first use, my shower was MUCH cleaner. Soap scum is visibly reduced. Since I didn't start with a clean shower, it starts cleaning a little with each use - along with maintaining what is already clean. So you get a stripe of clean the first day. The second day, the stripe is longer. The 3rd day, the stripe is longer and so forth. It's been almost a week and about a half a bottle and the whole shower is pretty clean. I would imagine it would take at least another week to sparkle. There are two down sides... 1) our shower head is below the top of the shower stall.. as most, if not all, shower heads are. You hang this thing on the top part of the shower head where it comes out of the wall. It hangs down 8-10 inches. The nozzle that sprays is at the bottom of the contraption. That means that the top ~18 inches of the shower don't get hit. Although the buildup on that part of the shower isn't very bad, I will still have to give that a spray manually once every few weeks. 2) It doesnt do well with mildew UNDER the glass door sealant. I will still have to spray that manually. Very worth the purchase thus far though. |
