This book is by Jack Stonely incase you didn't know. I am only 11 and this book made me cry my eyes out. Scruffy's Mother was abanoned in her old home where she onced lived happily. The reason everyone moved out was because monsters came (big machines-bulldozers, etc.) Scruffy's mother had three puppies, but only Scruffy survived because her mother could not find enough food and the puppies were feezing. Once a fire in the house started and Scruffy's mother held her in her mouth. Scruffy's mother had to climb up the chimmney but made it, but you thought she died. Then, they leave and Scruffy goes after someone's sheep and before Scruffy gets shot, her mother leaps infront of her, gets shot and dies. The rest of the book was about her life then after. She becomes famous at the end. This book was my favorite book I ever read. You have to read this book. If you don't, you don't know what you're missing!

I read this book about 23 years ago when I was about 12. I loved this book and it turned me into an even bigger animal lover. I haven't read the book since I was 12, but I remember crying so hard that my head hurt. After reading this book all I could think about was animal abuse and neglect and all that miserable stuff. I vowed to have a home for abandoned animals someday because of Scruff's story. It is a very good story, but I would not recommend it to the ultra-sensitive (like myself).

I also have very fond memories of this book. I wonder if I can find my old copy of it anywhere... It is an excellent and heartwarming story about happy endings for rescued dogs that serves, at the same time, to open eyes about shelters and the people and dogs that end up there.
