1.0 out of 5 stars Who could read this book?
I really didn't like this book at all. A dog is abandoned, and she can only save on of her pups. Then she dies, and the pup Scruffy gets shot. I hated it, and would never reccomend it to any of my friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scruffy is a very sad and touching book., April 16, 1997

This review is from: Scruffy (Turtleback)
The book Scruffy is one of the best books I have read. I liked it because it was very sad and touching. You wanted to find out more and you felt as if you were really there. All the characters seemed real and sometimes I wondered if they were. When you read this book , you felt bad for Scruffy and scared that somthing would happen to her. The book is also funny at times. It takes place mostly in a city. I would guess it was supposed to take place in1978. By reading this book I like dogs much more. Compared to any other great book I Have read , I rate this is the same , if not better. I would suggest for others to read this book. It's a very exiting story about a brave dog who's mother has died. The dog , who is named Scruffy lived with three human family's and one dog one. What happens when she ends up in the pound? Read the wonderfull book and share the pleasure to find out!!

5.0 out of 5 stars An All-Time Favorite!, December 20, 2001
This review is from: Scruffy-Paper (Paperback)
I read this book first when I was in 6th grade and again, and again, and again. I cried everytime. Now, 15 years later I found it in the garage and re-read it. I cried again! Initially released in England as the Tuesday Dog, this tale follows the lonely life of a stray, in a world made for humans. If I remember correctly it is based somewhat on a true story. I'm saddened that it is out of print, as I came looking to buy copies for my niece and young cousins. I'm also disappointed that there is nothing else from this remarkable author. If you can find this book, I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read, if you can get your hands on it, December 25, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Scruffy-Paper (Paperback)
This story is about a mother dog, at first. She lives in an abandoned house. When she has pups, she goes out of her way to feed them. All the same, something tragic happens, and she only has one pup left. That pup turns out to be the focus of the book, and become Scruffy.
Scruffy is stumbling along when she meets a male dog. He is Butch. Butch escorts her back to his pack, who lives in a car in the junkyard. All the dogs are somehow caught, and they only have a few days left. Finally, an article about Scruffy runs in the paper, and, and, and I won't tell you what happens. It has a happy ending.
This is a great book for anyone who is a real doggie lover. They don't talk, so you kind of have to mind read. This is easy. The book is a good read on a rainy day, and reminds you that everyone is special.
It is almost impossible to find it. Check a used bookstore. That's where I found mine.

This is the best book I have ever read! I cry every time I read it. I still have my old book even though I am missing the cover. I also saw the mini-series of this book on TV whom I believe was ABC back in the early 80's. I have a 9 year old daughter and would love to share both with her.

I got this book from the library when I was about 8 or so. It was one of my favorites, a story that stayed in my head well into adulthood. I could never remember the title of it, just that it was about a little black and white stray dog.

Ironically enough, a couple of years ago at a flea market in Pittsburgh I found a copy of "Scruffy" sitting on top of a bunch of boxes destined for the garbage. I grabbed it, took it home, reread it, and have given it a permanent place on my bookshelf. Nearly 20 years after I first read this book, it still helps me to bring back fond memories of being a bookish child who loved animals.
