5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Book I Ever Read!
This book is by Jack Stonely incase you didn't know. I am only 11 and this book made me cry my eyes out. Scruffy's Mother was abanoned in her old home where she onced lived happily. The reason everyone moved out was because monsters came (big machines-bulldozers, etc.) Scruffy's mother had three puppies, but only Scruffy survived because her mother could not find enough...

1.0 out of 5 stars Saddest Book
I can't remember much, because I read it in 4th grade, but I do remember I hate this book. Scruffy's mom is tied outside her house when her owners move, with a bowl of food. She escapes and gets inside the house. She was pregnant, and had 3 pups. There was a fire and she could only save Scruffy. Then later, she gets shot by a farmer and dies, Scruffy gets shot and lives...

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Scruffy (Paperback)
This book is by Jack Stonely incase you didn't know. I am only 11 and this book made me cry my eyes out. Scruffy's Mother was abanoned in her old home where she onced lived happily. The reason everyone moved out was because monsters came (big machines-bulldozers, etc.) Scruffy's mother had three puppies, but only Scruffy survived because her mother could not find enough food and the puppies were feezing. Once a fire in the house started and Scruffy's mother held her in her mouth. Scruffy's mother had to climb up the chimmney but made it, but you thought she died. Then, they leave and Scruffy goes after someone's sheep and before Scruffy gets shot, her mother leaps infront of her, gets shot and dies. The rest of the book was about her life then after. She becomes famous at the end. This book was my favorite book I ever read. You have to read this book. If you don't, you don't know what you're missing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Be prepared for uncontollable crying, August 31, 2005
This review is from: Scruffy (Paperback)
I read this book about 23 years ago when I was about 12. I loved this book and it turned me into an even bigger animal lover. I haven't read the book since I was 12, but I remember crying so hard that my head hurt. After reading this book all I could think about was animal abuse and neglect and all that miserable stuff. I vowed to have a home for abandoned animals someday because of Scruff's story. It is a very good story, but I would not recommend it to the ultra-sensitive (like myself).

4.0 out of 5 stars Yay Scruffy, April 29, 2002
This review is from: Scruffy (Paperback)
I also have very fond memories of this book. I wonder if I can find my old copy of it anywhere... It is an excellent and heartwarming story about happy endings for rescued dogs that serves, at the same time, to open eyes about shelters and the people and dogs that end up there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved this book as a child, March 25, 2009

This review is from: Scruffy (Paperback)
I read this in the late 70's (at age 7 or 8) and I agree, it has some heartbreaking parts to it, especially in highlighting the plight of strays (which can also be a good lesson to learn about saving strays versus buying pedigrees, something that has stayed with me all my life). I am also a sensitive soul (and cried at times) but it was also such a moving book about an animal's triumph over adversity (which resonated with me about having strength and hope and working hard through difficult situations can lead to freedom/happiness). I loved this book and named a neglected stray that we found shortly after I read this book "Scruffy". (we had her for 15 years!) I suggest reading this book first and then deciding if it is appropriate for your child.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scruffy (aka The Tuesday Dog), March 29, 2007
This review is from: Scruffy (Paperback)
I also read this book when I was 12 and that was about 25 years ago. I cried like crazy all through it. I have always been a big animal lover and this story just accentuated that quality for me. This book was a real eye-opener for me in terms of what happens to unwanted animals and the hard lives that they lead. No living being should ever have to endure such things. After I read this book, I committed to adopting pets from the animal shelter. Jack Stonely dedicated the book to all the unwanted strays in the world and I am grateful that he was able to bring attention to such a difficult and sad problem with such a moving, poignant tale. I highly recommend this book even if you are sensitive. I've never forgotten it and you won't either.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Scruffy (Paperback)
Scruffy is a good book. It is sad too because her mom gets shot by a farmer. Then a little girl finds her and brings her home. Scruffy escaped and a retired movie star finds her. In the morning he did not wake up. some policemen found her and brougt her to the pound. I do not recemend it to small childeren because it is sad. It is a good book for kids 6 and up.
