This book offers excellent visual instruction for the artist who wishes to create art quality one- of-a-kind dolls. It is easy to follow the images and Mr. McKinley's instruction is clear and concise. This book works equally well for the novice and the experienced artist and will serve as a treasured reference for all those who are wise enough to buy it.

Easy to see why the late, great Robert McKinley books, go for such a high price!! Besides the obvious; that he is no longer around to write anymore books, his techniques, clear illustrations and easy-to-read informative style, are simply timeless. All lovers of sculpting should try to make a doll or two using Roberts' techniques!! They're fun and he makes it easy!! Wonderful, wonderful book!! Highest of recommendations!!!!!!

A Rare Gem,

I am a visual artist who has been making original masks and figures for years with PaperClay - a wonderfully versatile material. That being said, I have wanted to master certain techniques like making expressive and detailed hands (every artist has at least one thing they have trouble creating to their satisfaction, mine has always hands and horses). Looking for a book specifically on creating figures with this material proved to be very frustrating; there are books aplenty focusing on traditional and polymer clays, but very little that was specifically relevant to my concerns. One lucky day a series of links led me to this book which has been out of print for awhile and is quite rare. I practically had a heart attack when I saw the prices vendors were asking ($150 and up); to be honest, I waited 3 weeks before I decided to bite the bullet. I am not a big risk-taker, but the many glowing reviews I read made me feel it might be very worthwhile. I was not disappointed!!! The book is a rare gem - a generous gift from its author, the late Robert Mckinley. The reality is that this book is actually cheap for what you get -- think of it as a very reasonably-priced complete course. Please don't be put off by the book's brevity, IT'S WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!!

This is the second book written by Robert McKinley in his easy to read format and step by step instructions using the sculpting medium Creative Paperclay. This book covers the creation process of two of Bob's works, both of which are just plain fun to look at.
