An honest try at a difficult task.,

This book follows the carving of one traditional bowl, largely with photographs. This is it's strength and its weakness. Whatever you need to do to carve this bowl has been photographed and included in this book. But photographs are static, and when carving, the movement of the chisel (roll, sweep, or wiggle) can be critical. The text for each photo tries to explain the necessary movement. However, I found myself wishing arrows had been drawn on some photos to communicate the chisel movement. Then a key at the front of the book could standardize what the arrows mean, and show 'before' and 'after' photos for each of the arrowed movements. To be fair, no carving book I own (20+) does this, I just wish they did.
