Very elementary
This is a simple book which introduces the reader to the art form. It has value as background in the subject and to amateur carvers. It is not a reference for anthropological exploration of North West Coast totem carving by any means. If you are looking for such this isn't the book for you. This is a simple book which introduces the reader to the art form. It has value as background in the subject and to amateur carvers. It is not a reference for anthropological exploration of North West Coast totem carving by any means. If you are looking for such this isn't the book for you. There is no adherence to form or style anywhere resembling anything close to the heritage of NWC art.

Written for the beginning woodcarver who doesn't care about quality or adhering to the form used by the Northcoast people. Someone who just wants to hack something out. Is not appropriate for an experienced carver or the carver who wants to duplicate the beauty and grace of the totems of Costal People. Pass this bye there are good how to do it books available. This isn't one of them..
