Great action/shooter for the DS,

This review is from: Scurge Hive (Video Game)
Scurge: Hive puts you in the role of a female bounty hunter in space named Jenosa taking on alien parasitic organisms. Yes, that's Scurge: Hive, not anything with the word Metroid in the title. Despite the derivative storyline, Scurge: Hive for the DS provides some great action and shooting elements that fit right at home on the DS. The overhead isometric view of the game provides for plenty of fun shooting elements to go along with exploration and puzzle solving. Throw in some memorable boss battles to go along with the fluidly animated and colorful graphics and you get one of better recent action/shooters to come out on the DS. What stops Scurge: Hive dead in it's tracks from being an instant classic is that you will backtrack a lot, and I mean a lot. Combine that with the fact that the shooting and puzzle elements will eventually get boring the longer you're in the game, and that stops Scurge: Hive from being a must own. Not to mention that there is a time limit tied into Jenosa's health, which you must constantly find medical stations to refill, which will either add degrees of challenge or frustration depending on the gamer. That aside though, Scurge: Hive is still a great game for DS owners looking for some great action. The game is also available for the GBA as well, which runs a cheaper price tag but looks pretty much identical to the DS version, although the screen is smaller and the map isn't always displayed. Not to mention that for some reason, and maybe this is just me, but Scurge: Hive just feels more at home as a GBA game than on the DS, but that's jsut me. All in all, no matter which version you get, Scurge: Hive is a more than solid action/shooter that should be checked out.

I have good fun playing this game, the history is good (if you like sci-fi) the dialogues are funny and the action is constant. What I feel out of place are the graphics, they are very similar to a game boy advance game. I know that the game was launched for the GBA but using the same graphics having more processor capacity is a little lazy from the development part. The map in the lower screen is good, havíng a 2 screems game play is risk, so I have no complains about That.
In resume, a good game, great action, good control, but could use better the graphic capacities of the DS

I'd say this game is pretty well made, the animations are smooth (till fire oddly..), and the gameplay is classic with some added newer stuff. Though you'll have to understand, this game is pretty much the same as the one on GBA, so it's not pushing the DS graphically by any means. But that doesn't mean it doesn't look good, it plays like a Metroid game would from above, you get upgrades and different gun shots, and you save at stations (imagine that) and you gain levels as you beat enemies, though the game does have some twists to make it more difficult. You're infected with a virus, as you go your infection rate goes up, get to a save point and clear your infection before your infection reaches 100% or your HP gets drained fast.
That doesn't mean the game is timed, you have to make sure you hit save/decontamination stations along the way or you'll be drained of heath. For the price, the game is a steal, I saw a very lengthy one star review of this and figured that it should be said how this game is. Not being critical about graphics. The gameplay is something to get used to, once you do, it's similar to Metroid. Check out some vids, best way to tell if something is good besides actually trying it.
