Product Description

The sE Electronics USB2200a records CD quality audio (record path16 bit 48K, output 24 bit 48K) via USB directly to your DAW. The mic has several features unique from USB mics currently on the market including, ultra-low latency headphone monitoring (less than 1ms) with mix control to allow the user to set playback versus record path levels to monitor live takes, 10dB pad, Bass cut and an 'analogue switch' which enables the user to use the mic via an XLR connector with 48v phantom power where required. This feature adds flexibility of use to the mic, and means that whatever changes may occur to digital recording technology in years to come, the mic can still be used in ?analogue mode?, unlike it?s competitors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best USB mic on the market, May 5, 2008
This review is from: SeElectronics USB-2200A USB Studio Microphone
Our goal was to find the best USB mic that we could travel with for professional voice-over work (mostly male voice) so we could migrate away from Protools/mbox to Final Cut Studio SoundtrackPro/usb.

We first bought the Rhode Podcaster. It is very well built (10 year guarantee!) and very quiet. However, it did not meet our needs because it has a slight 'tinny' sound and not enough gain (even though we speak right on top of the mic; we like to speak in hushed tones).

We then tried the SE USB1000. By comparison to the Rhode (same price point) it was worthless. Poorly built and way too much background noise. For the price the Rhode is much better.

We really wanted the USB concept to work so we tried the SE USB 2200A and find it perfect for all our needs (male voice over mic with enough gain; quiet mic).

We think this would be the perfect USB mic if they took the XLR option out, extended the warranty to 3 years to compete with Rhode, and bring the price down to $200 to compete with Rhode. Until that happens, this is the only professional usb mic worth considering (in my humble opinion). We tried a few lower priced 'well reviewed' usb mics that are not even worth mentioning. They are toys meant for podcasts, not professional voice over.

By the way, we called the SE website tech support a few times and found whoever to pick up the phone to be knowledgeable, honest, and helpful.
