Sea Creatures Pop-Up,

Got this for a three and five year old grandsons that like pop-up books. Their mother says "They love pops ups and Sea Creatures is kind of "scary" in a fun way so they get a kick out of the creatures." As far as pop-ups from an adult point of view this is very good book, very detailed creatures, lots of mouths and teeth. Too delicate for toddlers still in the reach and grab stage of reading.

My 4-year old loved this book, and it was a big hit in pre-school. The illustrations are detailed and colorful. The down side - there are only 6 creatures featured, as each takes up a full 2-page spread. All in all, a great book that will see a lot of use.

Stunning pop-ups, but limited,

My grandchildren are just nuts about the pop-up geography book so I ordered this too. Although the pop-ups themselves are stunning, I found the overall experience limited because there is very little text and no other hidden secrets to discover. What you see when you open the page is what you get. The thing that so enchants my grandchildren (6 & just turned 9) about the other books are all the extra drawers, tabs, wheels, dangles, etc., etc. They can spend a lot of time discovering the hidden treasures in both the geography book and the pop-up invention book, where this book entertains much as a TV show does. It's visually spectacular--to look at only. I think the book is beautiful, but one look or two by the kids and they were off to other things. I think younger children would be the best audience for this book.

Crazy-good pop ups, but the text doesn't have much to it,

The large book (~12"x9") has huge pop ups that jump out up to more than 11"! For small readers, this means the creatures are coming right at you. This should impress any child (and adults).
There are six 2-page spreads covering different sea creatures: leafy sea dragon, lionfish, tiger shark, great devil ray, giant squid, and viperfish. There is text on each page asking several rhyming "If (descriptive text)" followed by "Then you are probably facing..." The text is a bit silly and not entirely on point in some cases (if you are filled with dread - great devil ray). But the great pop ups make up for it. The pop ups open and close smoothly for the most part (my shark doesn't pop out completely on his left side). As with most pop-up books, I always wish there were more pages. Overall this book should appeal to young readers and collectors of children's pop-up books.

My 5 year old just got into pop-up books, and we ended up buying 5 or 6 new ones to add to his brother's collection. This was the best of the new bunch. It was inexpensive, simple, durable, and had pretty remarkable pop-ups. Each page doesn't have a lot of verbage, so it's pretty easy to get through the book. Most of the other pop-ups were way to complicated, and we had problems right away with getting the pop-ups to function correctly. Most of the other books also had many many pop-ups per page that over complicate the books. This one was nice and simple. Definitely our favorite.

From lionfish to devil rays and tiger sharks, POP-UP SEA CREATURES provides an excellent survey of deep sea animals from giant squid to viperfish and sharks. Each pop-up features a weird, wonderful fish and a lovely set of facts, making this suitable not for library lending but for gifting or home use.

My daughter loves fishes and sharks. The book was a bit hit, and it seems to last more than a few days (my initial expectation based on prior pop-up books I got her).
Good quality, as the cover says expect "scary" creatures. Yet, my two year old loves to put her hands in the shark's mouth.

A Winner For Kids,

Children will love this amazing pop-up book. The large creatures may scare very young children, but my four year old grandson loved it. It is great for kids who love the sea and its creatures.

Any kid would love this book. I do exhibits for a zoo at malls and other places and pop-up books are 'kid magnets', though even the grownups seem to like them a lot. This one has strange fish in it and has a good 'wow' factor. I'd recommend it for almost any age.

These pop-up sea creatures are exceptional. I watch children's faces as I open each page. The pictures make great talking points at story time.
