Customer Reviews

We are new to this and it has been easy to inflate and deflate.
A & A
Occasionally I stuck the paddle in the water to keep from drifting a little bit or to get the boat back on track, but this was only due to a fairly good wind.

It's tough as nails and is wholly reliable and more stable than a rigid kayak or canoe.

We have recently bought the Sea Eagle 385 FT. We have used it in rivers and the sea. It is very stable, easy to paddle for 2 people (I think it would be hard for one person, but haven't really tried that yet). Today we went out with two friends who had single sit on top kayaks. We had our Sea Eagle pumped up and ready to go at the same time as they had their kayaks unloaded and supplies loaded. We bought the deluxe package with the blow up seats intending at some time in the future to buy the high backed seats. However after being our for around 5 hours today found the blow up so comfortable because you can adjust to suit each person that we are not going to bother. Our companions had the padded wrap around seats, similar to the high backs and they had sore behinds whereas we were still very comfortable. When we packed up we had ours deflated and packed up long before they had theirs secured on the trailer. Of course it will take longer for us to wash and put away when we get home.

It was easy to paddle, but does not cut through the water as well as a hard shell, which is to be expected and is more susceptible to wind. It is extremely stable, tough and rigid so you can move around if you need to. The front and back lacing for storing bags is great too. With the blow up seats and the floor which any water goes beneath you stay very dry. Once we worked out that I should be in the front and my husband at the back so that I set the speed and length of stroke we moved really very fast through the water as fast as our companions on their singles, but probably had to work a little harder.

It is also quite light for carrying both packed up and inflated. If you get too much water in it, e.g.

So SeaEagle did live up to expectations. They asked me to send back the kayak and sent me a brand new one.

Now that I have the new one I can see that the last model was flawed. I never could get it to inflate and sit right.. there were always wrinkles on the sides of the pontoons and the floor fit badly. Its bit a bit of a painful process and it was a bad recommendation from the salesperson to buy a used model. I don't like the 2 piece design. Its hard to get the kayak dry. However the kayak is fast and tracks beautifully. Its also very comfortable and stable.

***** Old review
I did a whole lot of research and was very excited about this boat. I have used it for about 8 months now -- I got the used package which had a couple of what looked like superficial scratches on the side but which I was assured was purely cosmetic. These have now degraded to tears and I have a slow leak in the boat.
The company claims to have good customer service and they are indeed very responsive but they have declined to replace the boat even though they have a 3 year warranty.
I guess I should not have taken them at their word that the scratches were superficial.

Its appalling to have a leak in a 1000$ boat after so little use and to have no support from the company.

I owned the SeaEagle paddle ski before purchasing this boat. While the paddle ski was quite versatile, and could hold a ton of gear, any small wind and the thing was all over the place. It was a very difficult boat to maneuver, and pretty awkward with a motor as well. I decided to let it go and purchase the fast-track. The fast-track by comparison is superfast to set up. I have an electric pump, and each pontoon takes maybe a minute, and the floor another 30 or 40 seconds. I generally inflate the seats at the car with the foot pump, and carry them to the water. They are great for hanging out on the shore as well.

This little boat is highly maneuverable. I was able to paddle a steady 2+ mile hour against the wind, and tracking was very very good. Occasionally I stuck the paddle in the water to keep from drifting a little bit or to get the boat back on track, but this was only due to a fairly good wind. You can hear the water slap against the Keel, it wants to go straight.

I love the inflatable floor, and almost feels like a rigid kayak. To me, the tube size is just about perfect in the classic model. I would think the newer design one would take on some water in choppy water, but have no first-hand experience.

I purchased a 8" x 4' long aluminum bench seat, and I strapped that to the back of the boat via some 1 inch webbing that I ran underneath the floor and then up to some cleats that I had mounted on the board. To this, I mounted the torqeedo ultralight 403 motor, and devised my own tiller arm using a small universal joint. It's basically very similar to what SeaEagle sells, but quite a bit cheaper, and I'm able to get a little more leg room with my design. A person could easily mount a Minn kota or similar trolling motor.

I chose this kayak because I wanted an inflatable that was versatile. I got exactly what I was looking for:

1: Set-up and in the water in 15-20 minutes. I'm not sure where Sea Eagle can claim 8 minutes, but 15 is a very reasonable time.

2: Fits in the trunk of my Prius or Avalon with room for whatever else I need to take along

3: With the Rudder installed, there is NO yaw. Paddling is a dream on flat-water and it tracks straight as as arrow.

4: I fish from this boat almost every time I'm out in it. Once I get to the area that I want to fish, I almost always fish while standing. The drop-stitch floor provides such a stable platform that I am completely confident fishing while standing.

5: Easy to store and pack once you dry it.

6: FAST! There is no other inflatable that can touch this. While it can not compete with fixed-hull kayaks, i's pretty darn close.

7: Inflatable seats can be adjusted to suit anyone's comfort. I like that they keep you up off the floor and that I can bend my knees to a comfortable position.

8: Easy to get back into it if you get thrown-off while whitewater rafting.

9: Did I mention that you can take this on whitewater (Class 3)? Remove the rudder and practice with someone that has experience. Then, have fun...

10: Everyone loves it. You'll not be out on the water without someone asking you where you got it.
