Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

NYPD Detective Neil Hockaday--"Hock"--is a good, dedicated cop, despite daily confrontations with the seamier aspects of life in Manhattan's Hell's Kitchen and Times Square. The complex plot of Adcock's suspense thriller comes into motion when a snitch with information to sell is murdered before he can keep his appointment with Hock. Then Hock is handed a tricky assignment involving death threats to Father Love, a powerfully connected and flashy Harlem radio preacher. After saving Father Love's life when an assassin attempts to gun him down outside his church, Hock discovers--in his own bathtub--the icepicked body of a sleazy rent-collector and then realizes he is being followed. These events connect smoothly in a satisfying narrative that indicts some New York real estate developers for their unconscionable greed. Adcock's ( Precinct 19 ) picture of the Big Apple is not pretty, but it is gripping and effective.

5.0 out of 5 stars Neil Hockaday series starts out with a bang!, May 12, 2004

This review is from: Sea of Green (Hardcover)
"Sea of Green" is the first book of the Neil Hockday series, and it is a great book. Hock, as he likes to be called, is a detective for a part of the New York City police force called SCUM(Street Crimes Unit Manhattan). Hock is assigned a case where he is supposed to protect a well-known black preacher named Father Love. Soon, he delves into the death threats, and finds a vast underworld that is invisible to most New Yorkers, and this underworld is up against unscrupulous real estate developers who wish to destroy their homes. Add a few dead sleazeballs, and you have a great mystery, with a shocking twist at the end. This novle is also funny and honest as it pokes fun at New York, and at certain politicans(like Bush), and businessman(check out the Trump clone in here). read this book, you'll love it.
