Underrated and Unapreciated. 80's grit rock perfection,
By Steve (Hell's Acres, SC) - See all my reviews

This was produced by Guns and Roses producer Mike Clink. It rocks steady, with a laid back charm, while still being positively electric. Interesting lyrics, a whinier vocal style, and great meat and potatoes rock guitar work together, making this a more interesting record than many gave it credit for. Buy it and see what I mean.

This is a flawless album. My favorite of 1989. One of the few Five Star reviews by Kerrang and others that actually deserves all five. Not a bad song on the entire album and the second singer just adds a nice twist. Best album of 1989. Just ask Slash, it was his too. Too bad the dope killed them.

Great band and KILLER album. I remember watching MTV's 'Headbanger's Ball' back when this came out and Alice Cooper was the guest VEE JAY-he was reading a comment from their promo about how they "Were influenced by the Yardbirds, Aerosmith and Alice Cooper'-then he said "I LIKE THIS BAND!"- I couldn't have described them better-this album is KILLER ROCK N' ROLL AND IT ROCKS.

I PULLED THIS CD OUT OF MY BUDS COLLECTION AND SAID I WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THIS BAND AND THIS CD. HE WAS ESTATIC AND BEFORE THE 2ND SONG WAS OVER SO WAS I. THIS CD IS ROCK SOLID WITH SOME GREAT TUNES AND SOME AMAZING GUITAR.THIS IS SOME DARN GOOD ROCK AND ROLL AND NOW I UNDERSTAND WHY SO MANY OF THE WEST COAST ROCKERS WERE SO IN TO THEM. YOU WONT FIND ANYTHING HERE THAT JUST REALLY ROCKS FAST AND HARD IF THATS WHAT YOUR LOOKING FOR BUT ITS ONE OF THOSE THAT JUST SIMPLY LAYS DOWN SOME GOOD ALL AROUND ROCK. GREAT MUSIC AND LYRICS HERE. FORGET THE 28 SECOND SAMPLERS AND THE BANDS NAME AND ALBUM COVER ( I TOO OFTEN BASED MY PURCHASE'S OFF OF THESE AND MANY TIMES WRONGLY SO ) . THE SEA HAGS HAD SOMETHING SPECIAL GOING ON AND THIS IS A SPECIAL CD. I CANT COMPARE THEM TO ANY OTHER BAND MUSICALLY AND CERTAINLY NOT GUNS N ROSES ( JUST THAT SLASH WAS A BIG FAN ) AND ALOT OF TIMES THATS GOOD. HEY THERES ALOT OF UNKNOWN AND UNEXPLORED MUSIC OUT THERE THAT ESCAPED THE MAIN STREAM AND WE FIND THEM EVERYDAY. THIS IS GOING TO BE ONE OF MY BIG FINDS OF THE YEAR EVEN THOU ITS 22 YEARS LATER. IF YOUR INTO JUST GOOD MUSIC AND LOOKING TO EXPAND YOUR COLLECTION THIS IS DEFINETELY ONE TO ADD AND IT WILL ONLY TAKE ONE SPIN TO HOOK YOU. OH AND THE LOUDER THE BETTER !! THIS IS ANOTHER ONE THAT YOU CAN BLOW YOUR FRIENDS AWAY WITH.

When I first read the reviews for this album, I had extremely high hopes. Almost every review of this album compared these guys to early Guns 'N' Roses. I'll have to rain on the parade guys! These guys sound nothing like GNR', and i'm being very gracious. The Sea Hags try to rock hard and gritty, it just seems to be contrived and un-original. Most of the songs on the debut aren't really that strong, and the choruses just seem to repeat the same lines over and over. I would have rated this release lower if not for the song "Half the Way Valley", which is pretty much the only reason I bought the album to begin with. You would do better looking elsewhere for you GNR needs. I'm gonna state this so nobody thinks i'm being a butt, i'm a huge fan of anything hard or melodic rock from the late 80's or early 90's. So this review has nothing to do with the time period, it has everything to do with a sub-par hard rock record.

these guy were great blues like hard rocken band that many big rockstars like kirk hammett (had something to do with these guys production?) and slash and tracey gunns were fan or dope friend with them.they had a good hard rock feel very GnR,LA guns, the hang men, seduce and skid row like style but looser more raw bar band(maybe even the black crows old barrowed tone)they were the type that drank themselse sober and got so high they were laidout on the floor nightly.these guys may have even woke up a few rockers to their excesive habits, after all these guys destroyed themselve with the drugs.great band for a small moment in time, then flush!

SF Sorrow story,
This review is from: Sea Hags (Audio CD)
I'm so glad I bought this back in '89 when I lived in San Francisco from '85 till 2001. I thaught they were a local band because they were always playing around town at Slims, The Stone even The Warfield. It wasnt till now that people are talkin' about these guys that I realized they were from Seattle. The Sea imagery and sleaze of the band went well in the Tenderloin of S.F. These guys were pure raw emotion on stage, fat rhythms with swagger and really heart-felt solos and vocals. A little rough and raunchy but it was musical and it was Rock n' Roll. And so they live the lifestyle wich was written in fanzines, even the local paper about the O.D.'s and drunken orgies, they played by their own rules and lost out. They did'nt follow the Grunge scene and really shined because of it. Another tragedy, get this while available, this just resurfaced after 20 years, For fans of Crue, Roses, Dolls, Pistols and old Aerosmith...Its Rock! with a big-time fat production...will satisfy excessive appetites.
