4.0 out of 5 stars Fresh take on Wiccan Dragon Magick

My wife bought this book for me because I enjoy working with Dragons. To my surprise, the book was pretty much a glittered Wiccan book, using his own magickal glamoury to write about Dragons, Parker J. Torrence leaves much to the readers imagination to figure out. The rituals are incomplete as well as the Sabbat information.

This review is from: Sea, Land, Sky: A Dragon Magick Grimoire (Paperback)
For a long time there's really only been one book, "Dancing with Dragons" by DJ Conway, written for those who wish to include dragons in their magickal practice, and people either seemed to LOVE it, or HATE it. Parker J. Torrence approaches the material from an entirely different perspective (albeit still a Wiccan one), one that is at once more minimalistic, and imaginatively expansive.

Not choosing to assign specific names to the dragons he calls upon, Torrence invites the practitioner to discover these beings for oneself. What makes the path particularly interesting is his inclusion of the Sea, Land and Sky dragons, in addition to the elemental dragons of Earth, Air, Fire, and Water.

The Sea, Land, and Sky dragons act as links to the past, present, and future respectively. By including them in circle work, the practitioner can tap more readily into the various realms of time-space during each and every working, opening them up to and informing their rituals with a more multi-dimensional experience.

Both a plus and a minus to the book, in my opinion, is that the author presents the ideas and methods, and leaves those with the reader with very little exposition. Stating from the very first page that this book is not intended for novice practitioners, Torrence leaves the great bulk of the material for the reader to discover through their own experiential work. For readers who are used to having scores of "historical" and atmospheric filler, long explanations, and endless pages of pre-written and wordy rituals, this book may well dissapoint. Those who can spend the time to really ruminate and experiment with the information and ideas presented by Torrence, this book may well be a breath of very fresh draconic air.

Not a bad read. A bit fluffy in parts and some bits seem like they were taken out of a fantasy series. However, if you know how to separate the fluff from the rest, it's definitely worth the buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved this book, March 4, 2011

This book is amazing. For me, it helped a lot and fit right in for what I was looking for. It is not for beginners, that is true, but if you know basic circle casting, how to properly meditate, common rituals like consecrating, etc. then its a great read and you wouldn't be lost on it at all. I am very interested in working with dragons, and so far this is the best book I've read on the subject of contacting dragons. I'm very happy with it and glad I decided to order it.

I'm interested in contacting dragons, and I found this book has a different way to do this. Some of the concepts I can incorporate, but others I will leave alone - they're not for me. Very happy to have purchased this book.

I find the rituals satisfying to the Dragons and written in working knowledge.
I like the Charges of Goddess and God which holds the light in dark in balance.
As High Priest of a Dragon Tradition in San Diego California I have incorporated lots of the material of this book in my book of magick.
Thanks,
Shodowolf

To my surprise, the book was pretty much a glittered Wiccan book, using his own magickal glamoury to write about Dragons, Parker J. Torrence leaves much to the readers imagination to figure out. The rituals are incomplete as well as the Sabbat information.

This book would not be for the beginner in Draconic magick.
The only thing good I found about this book was that you could download mp3 audio clips from his website to match the meditations from the book for free.

Almost half of the book pages are blanks, so there is plenty of room for more writing from the Author here. Maybe a revision would be nice?

Sorry, if you want more Dragon magick look elsewhere, maybe from D.J Conway's or Oberon Zell ravenheart's book series.
