The Sea & Sea DX-860G Islander Kit includes the Sea & Sea housing rated to a depth of 150' (45 m); which is combined with the Sea & Sea DX-860G camera. The fine 1/2.5" CCD chip with effective image quality of 6.2 megapixels, and can be interpolated up to 8 megapixels to produce files for large detailed prints. The camera is equipped with a large, bright 2.5" LCD monitor. This makes composition, replay, and adjustment easy on the eyes. On land you can even listen to your favorite music on the camera's speaker. The 35-105mm optical 3x zoom provides focal lengths appropriate for a range of subjects and distances. For a wider view that is better for underwater a wide conversion lens that attaches to the housing is included. Of course the camera is also ideal for snorkeling, surfing, skiing, fishing, sailing, or even certain industrial situations. The Sea & Sea DX-860G housing allows access to all camera functions underwater. The camera is easy to use even for beginners. We purchased this model camera in Jan 2008 from a local dive shop. It preformed ok and was only used a few times a year and mostly for SCUBA diving. Last April it was used for land use and worked ok. It was put away until xmas of 2010 and when turned on it failed to open the lens.
I called Sea &Sea in Long Beach, CA to see about repair and they said send it to them as directed by their web site. After they received the camera, I talked to them about warranty I told them the warranty had expired and just give me a estimate for repairs.
The next thing I get in the mail is my camera back with a letter stating this camera is obsolete and no longer supported. They told me to buy a new model.
This is great, as I have about another $1000.00 in strobes, lenses, and cases for it, which is absolutely useless.
No thanks Sea & Sea.
