My daughter (aged 7) was given a Sea Monkeys starter pack for her birthday. I was the one who read the instructions and started off the whole process of growing them. I used tap water (though Scottish tap water might be fairly pure) and didn't do anything outside of what the instructions told me. Within a week, we could see the teensiest evidence of /something/ inside the tank. The instructions were very specific about aeration, and I've been diligent about it since discovering signs of life. The result - one month later, we've got a thriving colony of about 40 Sea Monkeys and they are very entertaining and meditational to watch. I think they must be breeding, because there are several tiny Sea Monkeys swimming around. I would say that the current instructions included with Sea Monkeys emphasize the aeration element strongly enough, but that is THE key to enjoying a durable Sea Monkey colony. BTW, the method I use is to pour the contents of the tank into a jug then back into the tank, maybe 6-8 times each day (I don't have Million Bubbles). You can be quite coarse about this task, as that seems to introduce more oxygen to the water and they seem to be hardy little critters. Keep the tank light, but not in direct sunlight and don't overfeed them (if the tank gets cloudy, you've given them too much food), then I'm sure you'll create a healthy batch.

Well, even though I had them over 3 years ago, Sea-Monkeys were the best! I'm 15 and I think I had them when I was maybe ten or eleven. They were the coolest things to wacth and I could actually keep them alive. I had them for about two and a half years. No, they didn't die. Unfortunately I accidentally knocked them over one day. That was probably one of the most horrible days I've had. I'm writing this review because I was browsing online and I think I wiil be getting more this weekend because my parents won't let me have a Ginuea Pig. :)
I highly reccomend them for all the kids whose parents won't let them have a puppy or hamster of any other pet, they are very low mantenece

I am 15 1/2, and haven't had sea monkeys in a while. (I had the ocean zoo) I just ordered this set, though. I do remember a couple things and this should help out the people sick of the pointless reviews about hoards of dead sea monkeys and kids that love them to death.

The most important ting about sea monkeys is that you must read the instructions! I can't stress this enough. You have to wait 24 hours for the chemicals in the water purifier to work the tank, so you might as well. The manual has a couple hidden things in it, so you really have to read most of it.

You also really need the million bubble pump. Its like $4 in the order form on the manual, and will keep them alive for at least a year. Mine lasted a year and a half, with the pump. (I forgot to revive them, though) So be nice and buy the stupid pump. Blowing straws into it and stirring with a spoon don't help at all, and that's probably the reason so many died in the opther reviews. (The aqua leash works a little bit, but its better if you just buy the million bubble air pump)

For parents: this is a good example for patience (it takes a week for them to become visible) and the cycle of life. After a couple months, they get born and die at about the same rate. They make a good first pet, or a good one for someone with fur allergies.

For offices and dorm rooms, they look cool and attract attention. For crazy-animal children, it might get boring for a little bit until 2 weeks when they're half an inch long. Sea Monkeys require very little care besides a weekly feeding and a daily pump with the million bubbles thing.

Also, try not to tip it over, as the top is really loose on it, and all of the water will come out.

This is the most basic sea monkeys kit. Follow the directions and think about how you would care for something like a fish, only these are easier. Start out with FILTERED (not tap) water, add the secret formula in the amount specified, add the eggs, and watch them hatch. From then on, circulate the water by blowing bubbes in it every day, feed them once a week, keep them out of direct sunlight. They have been selling for over 40 years because (1) they are so easy to care for and (2) they have awesome accessories and additional interesting tanks. This one is boring compared to the other tanks available. Also, give them "Sea Diamonds" packet and watch them play. Entertainment even babies can enjoy. And sea monkeys have even gone into outer space! Caution: If you get the Sea Diamonds, DO NOT add them to the Mars tank and make sure that excessive algea doesn't cling to the Sea Diamonds. Too much algea can kill your entire floating village.

I bought this kit a few months ago. I followed all the instructions, and in a few days, I had 25 little Sea-Monkeys. But after a few weeks, they started to die off. I checked some websites, and it told me that i had to aerate the water. This kit did not come with an Aqua-Leash or a Million-Bubble Air Pump,so I felt extremely helpless as my little Sea-Monkeys died. Instead of this kit, I would recommend the Magic Castle or Mars, which only costs a dollar more but has an Aqua-Leash.

For those of you complaining about them dieing it is simple! The sea monkeys die then come back to life amazingly. Wait a while and they WILL come back. And a simple way to aereate the tank is just getting a serenge from around the house and pump air into the tank. These animals will provide hours of entertainment.

I love my sea monkeys to death! I asked for these other type of sea creatures like sea monkeys for christmas but instead I got sea monkeys, at first I was really dissapointed, but as I hatched my sea monkeys and watched them grow, I couldn't imagine buying anything else!They are really a good tutor for responsibility and pet ownership, my parents would never let me get a cat, or dog, or something else, so I use my sea monkeys as an alternative and as proof that I am responsible and can take care of a pet. I have just one tip: never place your sea monkeys near a stove or hot kitchen utensil. My friend got sea monkeys a long time ago and while her mom was cooking in the kitchen, she accidentally knocked the sea monkeys over into the hot blazes of the burners. SHE LITERALLY FRIED THEM TO DEATH!

You certainly need to read the instructions before jumping in with these. We got them in the hopes that my 4 year old would enjoy them instead of the fish he was asking for. They are interesting, but after a while you kind of get bored. We'll be doing a fish tank for his Easter present. The sea monkeys though are easy to raise, easy to keep, and they seem dedicated to continuing the species. =) Due to their size though, there is only so much watching them you can do before you want to wander off and do something else. Having one of the keychains or other more portable containers would help though I'm sure.

The million bubbles thing is a must I think...really makes aerating the water much easier.

I recently purchased this product. I followed all of the enclosed instructions and many sea monkeys did indeed hatch (over fifty). However two weeks later, I returned home to find that all but one had passed on. The instructions included in my "Magicquarium" package said nothing of aerating the tank. Perhaps this caused their early demise. The cause of their deaths remains unknown but be aware that the instructions provided may not be sufficient information with which one may raise healthy sea monkeys.

i got a green one from target. i have not even put the eggs in but i have to say ther sea-monkey deal was beter than amazon. i got the rist aquarium with it free! all that plus the aqua leash for just 9.00!Sea-Monkeys MagiQuarium, Carded
