I LOVE sea monkey and had them for years growing up. I was so happy when my son asked for them. A little tip: if you ever find your sea monkeys are all gone, don't dump the water! just let it evaporate and then add more water to the tank and BOOM they should come back. This has something to do with the eggs being dormant and then when they dry out and get re-wet it jump starts the process that had previously been stalled. I started my sea monkeys in about the 3rd grade. I finally got rid of the tank when I moved out after high school. I never once added any more egg packets and ALWAYS had sea monkey. I even fed them to my fish for fun. (Just scoop a small amount of water out and put in larger aquarium. Your bigger fish will be very happy!) Good luck and never give up on these resilient creatures.

I bought this same kit at a local toy store in Washington State, where I'm currently working on my Freshmen Year of College. These little pets of mine have been very enjoyable and interesting for me to watch during my long months away from home. They are good for stress management and help me get my mind off of troubling things during the usual college experience.

Tips for using this kit (based on my experience):
1) In contrast to what they say in the instructions, Tap is IS FINE, but be sure to follow the water purification step carefully: Add in the water purifier, stir, and then let it sit for AT LEAST 24 hours. If you touch the kit before a full 24 hours or more, you risk sabotaging your sea monkeys.
2) Feed 1 small scoop right when you see the first sea monkey babies (they look like dots). The instructions might say not to feed the sea monkeys until they grow bigger. However, in my experience, when I was raising a second generation of Sea Monkeys in the same tank (my first sea monkeys had babies) the babies would always die prematurely, and I realized that this was because I wasn't feeding them soon enough. The second or third time I saw babies in the tank, I fed right away and they grew bigger and are still alive to this day - 3.5 months later!
3) Feed every other day is fine. In contrast to what the kit instructions might say, you should definitely feed your sea monkeys regularly. For my first generation of sea monkeys, I fed them once or twice a week. They all died in 2 months. Then, for their babies, I began feeding about every other day. They are still alive - over 3.5 months later. Note: It's actually OK to have some CLOUDY water. My sea monkey tank is green and slimey, but my sea monkeys are fast, healthy, and are living longer than any other sea monkeys I've had. You need to make sure they have enough food in their tank, even if it's slightly cloudy. When you see them getting sluggish or red (indicating that they're suffocating) then STOP feeding until they get more active again.
4) No need to change the tank water - ever. I've never needed to, and my Sea Monkeys have almost lasted a full year. Keep in mind, however, that I did add in another packet of Sea Monkey eggs. It seemed like my 2nd generation of Sea Monkeys were having a hard time producing babies. Nonetheless, they are healthy and fast, and my sea monkey eggs (from the extra packet of eggs) produced about 7 healthy sea monkeys as well.

Overall, be patient with raising your sea monkeys (you might not see babies right away) and be humane to them. They are in fact living creatures, so don't torture them.

My sea monkeys are getting noticeably bigger every week! They are awesome and cute! Brings back childhood memories of when I had them as a child.

I am so glad I found these. I have bought three for gifts so far and the kids LOVE them. I had them as a child and they are still fun to watch.

I had high hopes for my ocean zoo sea-monkeys. I followed the directions and they hatched. It took a long time, but they did grow... Very slowly. At no point did they come to resemble anything remotely similar to how they are portrayed on the illustration. I was hoping to find some semblance of a ocean primate, these are not ocean primates. They did not sit on the bottom with their children, they did not make eye contact as they do in the image. I'm not so much concerned about the lack of eye contact as I am about the lack of their ability to sit on the bottom. They swam a lot, and showed very little interest being as leisurely and familiar as is portrayed in the illustration. Nevertheless, I like them alot.

When I received the package it was already partially opened, but I believe that was just mishandling of the postal service. All the items were otherwise in perfect condition when I received them. I put the water in straight from my city tap and put he purifier in. I have had the item for six days now. I waited one and a half days before putting the eggs in. With my anxious five little siblings time could not move slower. Day four came and I realized they need more heat as our temperatures dropped shortly after placing the eggs. I keep a constant light on them to keep it at a comfortable temperature. Day five rolled on with no sign of life until late that evening when I spotted one hatch-ling. One turned into two, and two turned into three. They are growing very quickly. you can tell which ones hatched yesterday and which ones hatched today. I'm sure I will wake up to more on day seven. With this item you REALLY HAVE TO BE PATIENT and keep it above 70 degrees F. The kids are begining to love it but I adore it more and I'm a teen. Sea monkeys really have no age cap. Love them.

Ordered this as a birthday gift. Just as fun as I remember when I was a kid! Don't even think that the packaging has changed much.
