Product Description

Platform: Nintendo DS

But are they real? Might they lurk beneath the leaden cloak of the oceans, breaching occasionally into view, and the disappearing again? Truly, there is nothing quite so frightening as the idea of what lurks beneath the surface. This title will allow us to explore the world of the huge monsters of the deep sea in a fun and interactive manner. With all of the advances in technology and exploration, the oceans are still a great mystery to us. The "Sea Monsters" game will allow players to explore the prehistoric waters and see the real monster of the deep that existed tens of millions of years ago. Not only this, but the players will actually be able to control these massive beasts as they explore, hunt, hide and escape in an ongoing struggle to survive. The most exciting aspects of the game are the combat and movement systems for the monsterd themselves. The creatures, with a quick whip of the tail and neck, will be able to attack its prey in a split second - grabbing onto the prey and wrestling it for victory.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great game for kids who love the ocean, January 3, 2008

This review is from: Sea Monsters (Video Game)
My 12-year old daughter loves this game. She likes to swim around and explore different areas within the game. She enjoys collecting fossils to create new monsters. She also enjoys fighting with other sea monsters to retrieve fossils from them. If you have a child that loves underwater games, this is the game for him/her.

The 2-player racing was OK. Instead, my daughter made up her own game with a friend and played hide and seek. They really had a blast trying to find each other.

2.0 out of 5 stars Passable but frustrating., December 5, 2007
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Sea Monsters (Video Game)
Sea monsters started with much potential.
Hunt and be hunted, explore vast seas...
Unfortunately, What we ended up with is pretty much a platformer underwater: Unlock new species to use their special moves to get you to the next area, complete mission objectives.

The control system is shoddy though I have to say that after an hour I was pretty used to it. The swimming system requires you to hold down ^ on the D-pad nonstop, so your hand will hurt after a little while. There are also glitches. Nothing like getting all through a mission to get stuck in a wall, or all of a sudden find a spot that swimming through causes instant death. It will frustrate you... a LOT! Publishers really need to quit pushing games through testing in order to get them on the shelves quicker, you always end up with a sub-par product.

The music wears on your nerves after a while and offers no variation. The one good thing I have to say is that it's mildly educational, and lacks real violence or blood. (Eating fish isn't really even cartoon violence, after all, we humans eat fish)
My advice is to avoid this and if you really must have this game, I'd wait for the Wii version in Jan. Hopefully they'll work out the glitches first. Also If ocean exploring is your forte' I'd also look into Everblue 2 PS2, and Endless Ocean Wii, Both are wonderful games and allow for all kinds of ocean exploration.

My granddaughter says Sea Monsters is an awesome game. She had difficulty at first but now enjoys the game very much. She thinks it's a great game especially finding fossils.
