Likeable - but not sure why,

This review is from: SEA ROBBER: THE PIRATE ADVENTURES OF HECTOR LYNCH (HECTOR LYNCH 3) (Hardcover)
I enjoyed the book, got through it very quickly, and gave it four stars... but can I tell you why I enjoyed it? Not really, no.
It is well written but not brilliantly so. It contains some interesting episodes, but on the whole is not a gripping story. In fact there are substantial portions where very little of any real consequence happens with a few interludes that are interesting but largely irrelevant. Basically Hector chases his new-found love across the Pacific Ocean and gets into a few scrapes along the way. Not exactly rivetting and yet I did actually like it. Peculiar. |
