Sea Trials from Absentstar is solid from start to finish, with every song having the potential to be a fan favorite. The guitar riffs are hard and heavy, punctuated by Marshall Hanbury's frenetic enthusiasm. Derek Ingersoll's vocals show tremendous range, from soft pleading to forceful aggression. There are several bonafide potential alternative hits, including Half Life, Everyone You Know, and Give in To Me, but I personally find Don't Lock Me Out and Life Support to be a cut above the rest.

I've seen Absentstar in person several times, and the passion and enthusiasm that they perform with is obvious on this album. This is a debut album from a group that has greatness written all over them, as evidenced by their quick ascension to a major label record deal and production by grammy-award-winning artist Dan Wilson.

If you are looking for somthing familiar-yet-new, and a unique sound by a band that is true to its alternative roots, then you will be more than satisfied by Sea Trials. I love it, my wife loves it, and I see nothing but major success in this band's future.

I have seen these guys live in Bloomington, IN and have spoken to them afterward. I had never heard of them before the show but liked them immediately. This is one fine CD. I highly recommend it. All the songs are strong...my favorite being Life Supporet.

As I get older, I'm finding it harder and harder to like new bands but I highly recommend this record. Perhaps lacks a single standout catchy single, but the songs are good across the board. They supported Third Eye Blind this past summer but honestly Absentstar are more akin to a harder-edged Coldplay or Snow Patrol. I wouldn't be surprised if they built a strong fanbase.
