5.0 out of 5 stars Biography of a Navy Legend, May 31, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Sea Wolf: The Daring Exploits of Navy Legend John D. Bulkeley (Paperback)
This was a very riveting book. I couldn't put it down. It is a very exciting tale of a true Navy Legend and a national hero. Though there are some chronological gaps, they are minor and the author tells his story well.

A biography of remarkable man. From exploits in WWII to making sure our navy personel have the best equipment availible. No shortcuts under his watch. His life reads very nuch like a novel. Many adventures are more exciting than most movies. A thoroughly entertaining and educational account of a remarkable man. Bob

5.0 out of 5 stars Should Be Required Reading, November 25, 2011
This review is from: Sea Wolf: The Daring Exploits of Navy Legend John D. Bulkeley (Paperback)
This book should be required reading for every new US Navy officer and anyone interested in naval history. I read it a couple of years after leaving the service and can honestly say if I had read while still on active duty there is a very good chance I would have stayed in the Navy.

More exciting than most fiction I have read, William Breuer does a fantastic job of chronicling Admiral Bulkeley's days as a Midshipman at the Naval Academy and his exploits in World War Two (both of which read like something out of a Tom Clancy novel) through his time as commanding officer of INSURV. For any officer who has gone through an INSURV inspection you'll appreciate the work that Admiral Bulkeley did to rebuild the INSURV program from a joke to one of the most important evolutions for ship today.

One of the best non fiction naval adventures I have ever read. A real life Horatio Hornblower.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hero is an understatement, November 6, 2011

If I had not met 2 of Adm. Bulkey's daughters on the coast of Normandy I would have never learned of this remarkable American hero. This book is a must read for those interested in the Pacific sea battles and the Normady invasion
