Earth in the year 2350 bears little resemblance to the world of the past. A massive subterranean earthquake, volcanic eruptions, and tsunamis of biblical proportions have ravaged the planet, causing the Greenland ice sheet to melt, radically altering ocean levels around the planet. With most of the world’s economic centers submerged or leveled, the equator now divides 24th-century Earth into the Haves and the Have-Nots. The southern hemisphere continues to prosper under democratic rule, but genocidal battles have fueled the rise of tyrannical despots oppressing and exploiting the ravaged and water-soaked populations to the north. Northern refugees tell tales of three mad overlords brutally beating down resistance, major cities garrisoned, and large armies being mobilized to invade the South. Bizarre stories depict the three warlords as almost supernatural beings wielding immense power with strange giant engines of destruction that emerge from the far northern reaches. Scientific and reconnaissance missions sent north to investigate the developing events vanish without a trace. In response to the looming crisis, the southern government deploys the Argosy, a gigantic super carrier outfitted with a phalanx of SeaBlades: high-performance air-sea rescue vehicles capable of flight and water submersion. I like to play all or most of the way through a game before judging it because you never know how the later levels are going to be. I beat the entire game (39 levels) and can tell you that it needed more variety to make it fun.

There is only one really good ship in the game so the decent selection of aircraft to choose from is pretty pointless. You use your ship to do the same few things over and over again. The first time you are in a new area, you have to fly all over in a timed mission. The rest of the missions involve you rescuing people. Sometimes you just find the people and rescue them. Other times, you are ordered to act as a courier and pick things up and then drop them off. That's it other than a few "boss" levels.

The "gimmick" to this game is that you can take your Seablade and dive into the water with it. That would be kinda neat if they expanded on that idea further. There isn't a whole lot of water on any level...much less an actual sea. Many levels in the game don't ever require you to even enter the water at all. That's lame for a game called "Seablade".

This was an Xbox exclusive title but the graphics are extremely mediocre. Your enjoyment of this title depends on how much you enjoy flying around a lot shooting at other aircraft and turrets that are shooting at you. You pick stuff up, you drop stuff off and it all leads up to one of the easiest bosses in video game history. I beat the evil alien my first try without breaking a sweat. "Seablade" would've been fun if the developers built on their original idea more and put some variation in your tasks. As it stands, the game is too repetitive and simplistic to be exciting.

I'm considering a purchase of a used copy of the game after renting it. The gameplay is fast and fun and the difficulty can be tough in the beginning until you get used to the controls and what weapons work well for your particular style. The missions are varied early on but can feel repetitive later on in the game. My biggest issue with the game is that for a game called "SeaBlade" there isn't much to do underwater. I was expecting more of a balance between the aerial sections and the underwater sections. The maps also feel a little confined after playing them over the course of a few missions. I also found that there really isn't much of a need to try to the different types of ships. The base ship can do everything you need it to even though you may have to make multiple trips to pick up cargo with the limit of passenger capacity. Needing to carry large numbers of passengers at once never got to be a big issue for me and the larger ships seem much too cumbersome in flight to make them worthwhile choices.

Also, there doesn't seem to be much use of the cast of characters in the game. They seem to be there just for background info only. Maybe I didn't get far enough into the game (I made it to Mission 10 out of 40 in the campaign.) to see them.

All-in-all, enjoyed my time with this flight-shooter, but felt a little more polish could have really put it over the top.

I just bought this game a few days ago and have to say that it's one of the most fun shooters I have played in a long time. Great graphics, tight controls, and lots & lots of action. The difficulty is a little hard, so you might want to start on the "easy" level until you get used to it. But I highly recommend Seablade to anyone who loves arcade shooters!
