Product Description

The Bag™ is an innovative welded filter bag with a durable non-stitched seam. It has a 180 micron mesh, is resistant to bleach, caustics, and acids, and comes with a convenient resealable locking closure. It is available in a convenient 5" x 10" size. It is ideal for all filtration products and has an exceptionally long life. Unlike stitched seams, welded seams are not subject to degradation from exposure to bleach, caustics, acids, or other harsh environmental exposure likely to take place during regeneration of filter media. Caution should be excercised, however, to avoid overfilling or over-packing as welded seams can be forced to separate by excessive pulling forces.

Important Information

Directions
Simply place desired filtration material e.g. Purigen®, CupriSorb™, etc. and close The Bag using the resealable locking closure. For best results, The Bag ™ should be placed so as to maximize the flow of water through it.

I just received "The Bag" 5x10" resealable media bag. I'm using it to hold Purigen, and it's going in my Brand new Fluval Fx5. Everything is great, The bag seems durable and none of the purigen spills out. Water flows through it rather easily too. My only complaint is in the description, both on the site, and on the box for the back it says, "...comes with a convenient resealable locking closure." I read this as it has a "Zip Loc" Type enclosure. Probably much more durable and strong. When I Opened it, it's even better. It has a reusable Zip-Tie. I'd never seen a reusable zip-tie before this product and It's really neat. Infact I want some just for my computer cords, and other organizational needs It'd be much easier than regular zip ties. lol

On the other hand I would -not- use this media Bag to hold other types of media, it's just overkill. You only need this bag if you are planning on using Purigen in it.

The best filter media bags I've come across in over 30 years. As a long time fan of Seachem products, it didn't surprise me that they would develop a media bag that surpasses all others. The fundamental problem with most filter bags is that the sides are stitched, this means that over time the acidic elements in the aquarium water along with the constant water pressure, especially in canister filters can result in burst seams.

Another problem being the sting type closures. These closures are usually cotton or a cotton and synthetic mix. The closure will break down at some point depending upon the water parameters in your tank. These bags are inexpensive and can be replaced but who really wants the extra burden of opening up your filter to check and or replace a media bag?

The media bag by Seachem is a 180 micro mesh with welded seams, these seams can last for decades - the possible way they would burst is if you over fill the bag with far too much media. As for the closure, it's water safe plastic, which once locked in place isn't going to pop open and blast media into your filter and all over your tank.

Another benefit of "The Bag" is that it's immune to recharging media with bleach as you can do with Purigen - one of the most advanced filtration media on the market today.Any other media bag would never hold up.The one complaint I have and this has to more with the Marketing of Purigen itself rather than the bag. Is that Seachem should do a better job making it clear that you must use at least a micro mesh of 180.

To use a wider mesh you'll end up with any very fine media such as Diatomaceous earth or Purigen pouring out of it like flour through a sieve.Yes, at $14.95 it's expensive, but if you take good care of it you'll never have to replace it.

Seachem's purigen is so fine it is hard to find a filter bag it will work with. This one is well-built, comes with a decent tie, and is around the same price as other bags that don't tend to do the job as well.

combined with Seachem Purigen, my tank has been much more stable and therefore easier to clean, Not as worried about crashing the nitro-cycle.

I keep purigen in it and have had zero issues. The zip tie works well too for changing out media.

This is a great compromise of easy to use filter media bag perfect for use in a sump with PhosGuard or other pellet treatments.

The nylon mesh works well to diffuse the product, but cleaning algae, bacteria, and detritus out of the bag is a pain.

This is an excellent filter bag. It's made of plastic with extremely fine pores and a reusable zip-tie is provided.

We've used these bags very successfully with a wide variety of media from coarse to very fine (e.g. Purigen). Water flow is unaffected and they keep the media contained well. These seem to last much longer than fabric-based bags and are worth the price. Not much else one could expect.
