4.0 out of 5 stars Low Power & runs Cooler
This is the review for 2TB drive listed on this page.

This drive has same characteristics of Seagate Barracuda LP 2 TB 5900RPM SATA 3 GB/s 32 MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Hard Drive ST32000542AS-Bare Drive which was prone to click of death, This drive however did not exhibit that issue till now, it comes with CC34 firmware and has warranty till AUG of 2015...

1.0 out of 5 stars Click of death after 12 hours of use
If I wanted a 1.5GB paperweight I would have ordered one. This drive was being used as a storage drive only but it started the clicks of death within 12 hours of being installed. After a month of the death clicks DiskWarrior opened up a warning telling me the drive was going to completely fail according to the drives built in S.M.A.R.T. diagnostics. I purchased 4 of these...

This is the review for 2TB drive listed on this page.

This drive has same characteristics of Seagate Barracuda LP 2 TB 5900RPM SATA 3 GB/s 32 MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Hard Drive ST32000542AS-Bare Drive which was prone to click of death, This drive however did not exhibit that issue till now, it comes with CC34 firmware and has warranty till AUG of 2015. Seagate did not have any new firmware update for the drive as of date, not that this drive needs any firmware updates but I always check it to make sure I have the latest firmware for the drive.

The drive is a retail kit, which means you will get a SATA cable, SATA power cable and screws plus a CD and documentation.

PROS:

[+] Large 2TB capacity for the price
[+] 32MB of Cache
[+] Good Read/Write Speeds even at 5900RPM spindle speeds
[+] Low power consumption and thus runs cooler than other drives in my system
[+] Comes with 5 Year warranty from Seagate

CONS:

[-] It can make loud seek sound and not recommended for silent Media center PCs

Other than the annoying loud seek sound when enclosed in the Media Center PC I have the drive works just fine, finally I decided to put this in an external SATA enclosure which changed the acoustics to suit my needs.

Time only will tell if this drive will survive a regular use, but with 5 year warranty you cannot go wrong!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Hard Drive, October 18, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I am very happy with this hard drive. Seagate Disc Wizard worked great duping my old hard drive after I created a boot disc to run it from. The retail kit is worth the extra money for the 5 year warranty, plus it was shipped in the well padded retail box from Seagate inside the shipping box. Others have complained about the noise level of the drive, but I find it barely noticable.

5.0 out of 5 stars So far so good :), July 12, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I had some reservations initially when purchasing this drive due to the large number of bad reviews out there. Upon receiving mine I stress tested it using Seagate's own SeaTools and used it on a desktop system for a couple weeks before deploying it in our home server, and so far it has been running great.

Definitely a cool and quiet running drive, offering fairly good performance at a good price.

I can imagine why people would be antsy about Seagate about the 7200.11 and 1.5TB Barracuda LP fiasco, but for the moment mine does seem to be going fine. Maybe I got lucky, or maybe a few months down the road my unit will run into issues, but amongst all of the drive manufacturers, I do fine Seagate's RMA process to be the most painless to deal with as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Two 2 TB Seagate Barracuda 5900rpm SATA 3Gb/s Drives, July 11, 2010

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
These two "Seagate Barracuda 2 TB 5900RPM SATA 3Gb/s 32 MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Desktop Hard Drive ST320005N4A1AS-RK-Retail Kit[s]" purchased on 6/9/2010 are truly great drives, holding an amazing amount of data. Further, there are two things I like about them being Seagate: 1-Seagate has a software which is built on Acronis True Home drive-cloning software -- but for free with Seagate drive use, and 2-Seagate has a program for drives in warranty -- and here is my experience: A past 1 TB Seagate Barracuda drive failed mechanically. Instead of going through the entire "I-send-it-there-you-evaluate-the-warranty-maybe-you-send-me-a-new-drive-maybe-you-don't-etc", Seagate has a program where I paid $19.99 (after running some tests online on my drive). No questions asked now--or later: They send you a new box, foam packing, anti-static bag, and pre-paid UPS shipping label -- with a brand new drive in it! You put your old drive in it, ship it back, and forget it! You pop the drive in they sent you! Voila! That's it! No hassles, no problems! This is why I have stuck with Seagate, have 3 1TB and 2 2TB Seagate Barracuda drives (having replace two 0.5 TB other-brand drives). I have had zero problem with any of my other Seagate drives -- and the one I did -- replacement was cheap, up-front, and totally hassle-free.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing but success so far on 20 units!, December 26, 2011
I own 20 of these drives that are installed in computers and servers. They all have worked perfectly since the day of installation to now. Some are about 2 years old and the latest one I installed is 3 months old. The drives are quiet and use super low power consumption which makes them ideal to use in applications where you have many drives in the same case.

The drives feature 2TB of storage and they are SATA II using a 3GB/s data transfer speed. They run at 5900 RPM and have a 32 MB cache buffer for high data transfer and write speeds. I would not use one as a primary boot drive though they do write as fast as 7200 RPM drives. I have begun using Solid State Drives for my primary drives because of the speed and reliability.

Based on my experience I cannot do anything but recommend these as a good buy!

I purchased 4 of these drives all the 1.5GM modle to fill all 4 bays in my Mac Pro. I'm expecting the other 3 to fail in time. As soon as I could I set up a return with Amazon, and ordered another drive but this time I went with the Western Digital 2 TB SATA II 64 MB Cache 3.5-Inch Retail Kit - WDBAAZ0020HNC-NRS let's hope I have better luck with this new drive.

1.0 out of 5 stars Crap, February 20, 2011

It works well for a month, and starts clicking and acting funny. Then it starts stalling; it's inevitable that this drive will fail. But don't believe me, just look up the reviews on newegg. Oh, and watch out for the other reviews; most of the good ones are discussing the 2.0 gb version; the 1.5 gb version... all I can say is stay away. Nice try guys, you got me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beware, October 19, 2009
The listing for this is incorrect. The RPMs are not as described. If you check Seagate's site and the Item model number you will see that it runs much slower at 5900 RPM.
I was excited to see the internal 2tb at this price but thought something was fishy. Hopefully they'll correct this description.

3.0 out of 5 stars Reviews So Far Are NOT for this Item, July 23, 2010
All three of the reviews (as of July 23, 2010) for this item...aren't. They're for the 2 TB version. It seems odd that these reviews would be placed under a different item. The other listing for this same drive (minus the word "Desktop" in the description) are a lot less flattering. It would make sense to be wary, therefor. Please note: I'm giving it three stars because Amazon won't allow a review without a rating and I can't be pro or con for an item I don't own or use.
