4.0 out of 5 stars Why has the price doubled?
I bought this hard drive for about 42 dollars less than 4 months ago and the price is around 100 dollars now? I'm rather confused as to why this has happened. But all in all this hard drive has no failed me yet. Boot times are about 30 seconds from power on to windows aero fully loaded. I have no complaints about this drive, except the drastic price change. Before I saw...

Great value $47.00 for a 1TB SATA III hdd. Installed in minutes. Quiet operation. Only issue could be reliability and life of hdd and only time can tell.

1.0 out of 5 stars Seagate fails, June 6, 2011
This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1 TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s with NCQ 32MB Cache 3.5 Inch Internal Bare Drive ST31000524AS (Personal Computers)
This the the crap Seagate drive that has been failing. Mine lasted 2 months and it was gone. Don't expect a lot of help from Seagate. They claim its just a firmware problem but that doesn't seem to be the case. There are plenty of other hard drives out there. - don't waste your money on Seagate. The are probably trying to dump them all and hoping for the best.Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 SATA 6Gb/s 1 TB Internal Hard Drive with 32MB Cache (ST31000524AS)

1.0 out of 5 stars Dead in a week, June 27, 2011

I built a new computer using two of these in a RAID(0) configuration. Everything was great for a week and then boom, a blue screen and errors when trying to boot. First time I've ever had a harddrive go that fast.

I give Amazon points for taking them back and giving me a very quick refund but I couldn't wait for a replacement so I headed off to Best Buy to get a couple of new WD Caviar Black drives that cost more but seem to working okay.

5.0 out of 5 stars 500GB Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s w/NCO 16MB Cachereview, July 22, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This drive worked excellent right out of the box. I have an IBM ThinkCentre and the 80Gb drive that came with it was filling up after 4+ years. It only had 10% free space left. I was able to clone it and now its much faster loading and all my programs run much smoother. I was going to get a 300-350 Gb but the price difference was a no-brainer. I have always liked Seagate and several friends also recommended Seagate. Amazon, You made me a happy user of your service. Thank You

5.0 out of 5 stars Works fine, July 20, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Quiet drive and runs considerably cooler than the WD drive I replaced.

5.9 Windows 7 performance index on my computer.

The best thing about drive was the Seagate DiscWizard software you can download from the Seagate site. It transferred the system drive data in just 45 minutes. Great!

1.0 out of 5 stars Crashed in less than 1 week, June 6, 2011
This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1 TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s with NCQ 32MB Cache 3.5 Inch Internal Bare Drive ST31000524AS (Personal Computers)
This HD died in less than 1 week. The problems started by the Hard Drive sticking and therefore the computer locked up.
The noise was so quiet that I had to put my up to the drive to hear that it was sticking. I gently tapped on the drive
and it started up. Soon the drive started to loudly buzz and would do nothing. Returned to Seagate after 1 week.

4.0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware -- This IS a "bare" drive!, August 7, 2011

Before buying this drive, you should know that it is TRULY a "bare" drive. There are no connecting cables, manual, or anything else other than the physical drive itself. To install the drive you will need the SATA data cable, an appropriate power connection inside the box (or a Y splitter), and a good working knowledge of the drive initialization process for your operating system.

That being said, once installed and configured, the drive works flawlessly. It is quick, quiet and (so far) dependable. It is also a very good value for the price, especially with Amazon's prompt return policy if you happen to get the rare lemon.

If you have the cables and know what you're doing, I would definitely recommend this product. I have always had good experiences with Seagate drives, and this one strikes a nice balance between speed, capacity and price.
