Great Drive!,
This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST3320620AS, 7200.10 - Hard drive - 320 GB - internal - 3.5" - SATA-300 - 7200 rpm - buffer: 16 MB (Electronics)
Almost as fast as the Western Digital Raptor X Drives. Fast and quiet and carries the 5 year Seagate warranty! Can't be beat for value and performance.

Seagate Barracuda died, customer support unsatisfactory,

Like many others, my Seagate Barracuda also died. I first knew there was a problem when my hard drive was not detected in Windows. I powered off and on, and it was still detected in Windows. I restarted and found out that the drive was not even detected in the BIOS--yikes. I powered off my computer, unplugged the power cable, opened my case and re-seated the cables to the drive. Still not in BIOS. I also tried a different SATA port on the motherboard and a different cable with no success. When I used my computer the next day, the drive was detected again.
Since then, my hard drive will intermittently stop recognizing in Windows and in the BIOS. Sometimes it is gone when I power up, sometimes it dies while I am using it. It has been difficult to run diagnostic tools, such as chkdsk and Seagate's SeaTools, because half the time my drive is not recognized, or stops being recognized. I do back up my important files, and after this happened, I started moving all my data off the drive. This was a very frustrating and slow process as often the drive was not recognized. Eventually I got most of my data off, but some of it was definitely corrupt because when I would move it the drive would immediately stop being recognized. The worst news is that others are not receiving good customer support from Seagate. With Seagate's warranty terms, the drive has to be shipped back with specific packaging requirements, such as no peanuts. Yet, I received the (OEM) drive covered in bubble wrap and surrounded by peanuts... After paying for shipping, you have to wait for Seagate to send you a different refurbished hard drive. Unfortunately, they send the same model and customers have had their replacement drives die on them too. They then have to repeat the return process. I contacted Seagate to ask if I could receive a hard drive model without these known problems, and they said no. I also asked if they had improved their testing to ensure that bad drives were not sent to customers. They said that bad drives happen and they couldn't prevent that. I understand that, but couldn't they at least send a model that does not have these known problems? I deal with hardware, warranties, and vendors all the time in my professional and personal life. Compared to other situations, I am not pleased with Seagate's customer service. I recommend buying from a company that values their customers. Anyone can make a hard drive, what really counts is a company that values its customers.

Super Fast!,

I bought this hard drive not too long ago, and it is blazing fast! The SATAII interface makes transfers much faster then IDE, and the 16MB cache along with the new perpendicular recording make it even faster!

We replaced a 160GB seagate SATA drive that was running out of space to store information. This is on my Powermac G5 2Ghz. This new disk I have only used for a short while so this is not a long term review. The drive was easy to change, formatted quickly and provides quick startup times with fast reads and writes. Ive used a number of seagate drives over the last 12 or so years on quite a few different Apple mac's and have had only one failure. On this system I also use a 250 GB back-up using SuperDuper to back up with (great program). I guess Im going to need to buy a larger backup drive now too.

Failed in less than one year.,

I bought this to back up important data on my iMac. The drive gave some warning signs before it completely broke down, so I thankfully was able to retrieve the data. However, I am very disappointed that it failed so quickly.

I paid $40 for this drive. No way I would pay 140. It works just fine however the prices have dropped significantly on solid state drives which make them a much better alternative.

I've recently built a new gaming PC so i thought i'd keep my old one just for downloading .. it had an IDE WesternDigital hard drive ..
As i keep it downloading .. that old hard drive is so not reliable and sometimes when the download speed goes very high .. files become corrupt !! ... so i figured i'd change that old hard drive with this new one ... Believe me ... i felt like i was fooling my self with the old hard drive ..... this hard drive runs silent, a little hot but that is not a problem with me. I've been using it at 3Gb/s for two months downloading 24/7 non stop ... never a corrupted file even in high download rates ... the computer became very stable and alot more faster. I think this hard drive is really underpriced !! ..... "Should i buy it or keep looking" ? .... I'd say buy it without even a second thought !! .....

Great hard drive!,

Added this drive to expand my storage capacity. This drive is awesome, huge amount of storage capacity just what I needed, plus super fast transfer rates. The 16MB cache really gives it a boost. I'm using this drive through legacy sata device (1.5Gbps no NCQ) and it still delivers by far higher transfer rates than my PATA drives.
Recommended.

Its a good hard drive, fast, no noticable vibration or sound (but maybe thats because of my case fans). But you'll have to get a sata cable if you dont have one, it doesnt come with anything (my motherboard came with about 5 sata cables). In conclusion, I recommend it.
