This review is from: Seagate BlackArmor NAS 420 4- Bay 2 TB (2 x 1 TB and 2 Empty Bays) Network Attached Storage ST320005SHA10G-RK (Personal Computers)
it hasn't even been two months since i got this and it's already lagging.
It's got two drives set on raid 1, meaning the drives are working redundantly or mirrored. Downloading from an external ftp site is 100 times faster than downloading the same file from this server within the same network with the ethernet cable connected... 2 ethernet ports connected to this NAS. no point of even serving media when all you hear is a sound every 30 to 60 seconds because of the slow stream. maybe i have a defective one. but geez! that means quality control sucks! to top it off, the people on their tech support know nothing to fix this. SEAGATE, Contact me if you find a solution to this and i'll retract this statement.

This review is from: Seagate BlackArmor NAS 420 4-Bay 4 TB (4 x 2 TB and 2 Empty Bays) Network Attached Storage STAH4000100, Black (Personal Computers)
I had to write a review after browsing for additional drives for my existing BlackArmor 420 NAS and seeing only negative reviews. My experience has been to the contrary of those reviews.
I purchased this product over a year ago and it has been a very wise purchase for me. From the setup through the operation of this device, it has been a solid performer and has been easy to access for the entire family. I store pictures, video, and music on this device and map network drives to each machine on our home network. How do I know it is easy to use? Nobody in my family EVER complains about it not being available, has complete access to all of their files, and I can restore any machine on our network without worrying about any personal files being lost. My current uptime is 88 days (only because I had to reboot the device to reconfigure my network). The internal system in this device is solid and the update procedure for its operating system is easy as pie. Great job Seagate!

I've had this unit for about 2-3 weeks now and I'm very happy with it. I've got it connected on my gigabyte LAN, configured it and have had no issues. Its very fast when accessing. I even use this NAS to stream to my TV using (Xtreamer) and have had no issues. I have it configured for RAID 1 and so far so good. I would highly recommend this unit to anyone looking for a NAS device.
