Lanoc Reviews “What if I told you that you could have Velociraptor level performance (and more) with almost seven times the capacity? Seagate's Constellation Hard Drive fits that bill to a T. It Outperforms the Velociraptor by almost 20mb/s on maximum read performance, and with 2TB of space it puts the 300GB capacity of the Velociraptor to shame.”
- Lanoc Reviews, January 2010
Umlan “I personally think that Seagate is on the right track with Constellation ES series and i am sure this is not the end of the Enterprise line for Seagate. Great fast drives and great performance. 9/10!”
- Umlan, January 2010

Perhaps I am misunderstanding something, but the drive I was shipped was refurbished, and I was expecting a new drive. Furthermore, the drive was DOA. I am running tolls against it now before shipping back to Seagate - but I just reread this product description and I see nothign about it being a refurbished product. BTW, my belief that it is refurbished come from the fact that the label on the drive reads "Seagate Certified Repaired HDD". So, possible I am misreading that statement - sounds like refurbished to me though.

I went to your website because I expected quality and am very dissapointed. The search for the drive was good however when I made the purchase it stated boldy that these were new drives. Within hours of installing these in a DSS200 screen server we began to have reallocated sectors on each of the four drives that were installed in this server. I actually spoke with a gentleman at Data Bug the company who shipped the drives and he informed me that indeed the drives were used and not new as your site stated. These drives will have to be replaced soon and the cost for the drives being used is not acceptable. Data Bug did tell me they would refund my money after the drives have been replaced which I have ordered drives from another company. You should not make statements regarding the product that is not true I doubt that I use your site in the future.

Well how about that. I bought these for a major archiving project - ordered ten, and six are now painstakingly filled with data. Hard to go wrong with a new unit at a good price and 5-year warranty.

Except that they may not be new, and they definitely aren't under Seagate warranty. I just now tried to verify it on the ones I have as I prepared to order more of them, since they spin up and work OK.

The data above makes a big deal out of the 5-year warranty, including a great big chart showing the specs. However, per the attached image from the Seagate website, these drives were sold as OEM units and any warranty is through the seller... and how long will these Amazon sellers even be around? The seller mine shipped from, DBSKY, seems to have only been on Amazon a bit over a year. Will they be around in another 5? Better hope so.

The drives seem perfectly fine. To me it looks like they're being sold as new; I have no idea now if they actually are, or if they're "pulls" which have been used and wiped. That wouldn't make them bad, but it would make them something other than what is represented here - a new Seagate drive with 5-year warranty.

I reckon I'll keep the ones I have, but it just goes to show...gotta be skeptical about these Amazon descriptions.

The product description could be construed as being a little misleading - what with stating the origianl manufacturers warranty period (of 5-years) then failing to state the seller's warranty period...

This is essentially an OEM pull (of unknown prior utilization, e.g. it's current run hours). The Manufacture's warranty check website says it's a bundled OEM device and to contact the bundling agent for warranty information. Since that agent is not disclosed, there essentially is no official warranting party.

Even-so, being a hardware guy myself and familiar with the trade, I'll still take my chances and retain the product. It works just fine (at least for now)...

The drive can not deliver streaming to more than two HD devices not matter how I connect it - no matter what system it is installed in. It has only average at best, transfer speeds and at times it puts itself to sleep in the middle of accessing a movie file over time. I had thought about returning it but instead I use it for back-up data. Again, unfortunately for me I must buy another hard drive for streaming; one that will not go to sleep in the middle of an HD streaming session.

Constellation class drives are much pricier that their regular counterparts, but in this instance I was building a server, and data protection was paramount. When your data is at stake, its stupid to buy cheap drives for the most important part of the PC --your data! The extra features help to reduce false positives, and the energy savings make the server less expensive to run in the long run. Drives arrived extremely well packed and all 6 drives dropped right in without an issue. Very fast RAID performance. Happy with these drives. If they all live out their warranty, I'll have gotten more than my moneys worth.

After much research, I chose this drive because the original drive (Western Digital) that shipped with my computer died in the middle of an album project. Although my ultimate preference is a Cheetah, it wasn't in the budget at the moment. As a music producer, I knew that eventually I would have to upgrade the WD with a highly efficient, reliable and secure storage that delivers seamless enterprise integration. Another added bonus is the MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) of 1.2 million hours. When one spends countless hours & months mixing an editing commercial audio, dependability is a huge issue. I recommend this drive to those who need more dependability than a basic desktop drive and if money is no object, step up to a Cheetah.
