Pretty Good,

This review is from: Seagate 160 GB 2.5" External USB 2.0 Hard Drive ( ST9160821U2-RK ) (Personal Computers)
I bought this because the HD on my laptop was getting full, so i transfered most of what was on my harddrive to the external seagate drive, it comes with bounceback express software, that made it pretty easy to back up evrything i wanted to, i've had it for three months now and have accessed it numerous times and havent had a problem with it, my only complaint its a little thicker than my buddies firefly drive of the same capacity but for thr price i like mine better.

I bought my Seagate to replace a lower capacity Firefly for use with my PC. I have had no problems at all over the last 3 months. I use it as my main hard drive between home and work utilizing the backup software to keep copies on the servers at work. I just toss it in my backpack for the trip to & from and find it travels very well.

Ordered and received promptly from another source, where it was less expensive at the time. That was March 1, 2007, and the other source has since stopped offering it. The current Amazon price is less than I paid. The drive has performed exactly as advertised, and the back up software works well. One strange quirk is that if I touch the drive before touching the computer (ground), it shuts down. I suspect it's a computer function, not the fault of the drive. No harm done. Just unplug and restart.

Pros: USB powered. Sturdy case. Decent data storage size. Decent read/write speeds. I use this drive in the field (computer technician) and it lives in my laptop bag and hasn't let me down once in seven months of heavy use. There is a Y cable provided (One end Data+Power, the other end Power Only). So this Y cable helps out when your laptop isn't plugged in so you can pull power from a different USB source such as a nearby desktop computer's usb port or a powered USB hub and then you can get your data to your laptop. This prevents your laptop's battery from running down too quickly and also prevents you from having to unravel your laptop power adapter brick and search for an open nearby electrical outlet!Cons: A bit on the heavy side but it only lends to its sturdiness. Doesn't come with a power adapter (The power adapter is not really needed but come on, it would be cool if it did come with one!)Doesn't come with a case. Shopping Tip: Buy this case to cushion your drive for mobility: Small External HD Case Black, fits perfectly, zippered and has a web netting for the cable. I don't even have to take the drive completely out of the case when I'm just plugging the drive in for a short time. The cases also come in other colors.

This device is fast, quiet, light weight, solidly built, doesn't get very hot, and comes with the special cable needed to power it from a USB port. Just be sure to reformat with NTFS or HFS before you use it, as it comes formatted with FAT32, which can cause problems with Mac OS X and WinXP.

Though it has been less than a month since I purchased two of the Seagate drives, I have fallen in love with them. They are very light and easy to handle. Thus, I am taking one of them with me between my external office and my home office everyday. I am using the other one for the purpose of secure backup of my data. Only the thing is that the capacity is a little bit small. I wish Seagate will produce a produce with at least a capacity of 500GB.

I bought this drive with the impression that it would have a great reliability. I was wrong.Whithout any type of bump or fall, suddenly the drive became lost and could not mount again. One of the two times, when I managed to mount it, was empty. I don't recommend it.

Absolutely perfect,

After spending some time deciding between hard drives, I chose this model and after about a year of use, I haven't run into a single problem. It runs smoothly (without having to connect more than 1 USB cable into my laptop) and quickly. Makes no noise and does the job as it should.5/5.

I have the 120Gb version of this. The drive still works great and I've been happy with it, but am on the road all the time and noticed that 3 of the 4 screws that hold the case together have fallen out. I called support for replacement screws and said that wasn't covered by the warranty and I should go find some replacements myself. They said there was no way this could happen through normal usage and I must have 'damaged' it. Ironically their own web site describes it as "Rugged and durable design." I'd like to know if others have seen this as well.
