Cute but undependable,
This review is from: Seagate 6GB Pocket Drive USB 2.0 External Hard Drive ( ST660211URK ) (Personal Computers)
Had the drive for eight months and it suddenly died. It died not through misuse. It suddenly got hot and ceased to be recognized. This experience alone means nothing, but others have had it. What good is a memory devise if it loses its memory?

Works great but dies soon,

I bought the 5GB version. It died w/in 1 month - Seagate replaced it. It's been 1 yr/2 mo and it has died again. The warranty period is 1 yr. I loved the drive and used it every day but am looking for a different brand with a longer warranty period.

Perfect For College!!,

As an IT student studying databases and web design, I needed a flash drive small enough to tote around comfortably, but enough gigs to store all the programs, software and other files for college easily. My wife and I bought two of them at Sam's Club for $80 each. We use one for home backup for thousands of digital pictures and MSFT money, the other I use for school. They have not caused a single problem yet. Its doughnut shape is a bit odd in the vast plethora of flash drives these days, but if you are looking for something to keep it in safely, then go to the grocery store and buy yourself a round tin of Altoids fruit sours. Eat or dump the candy, wash the tin, and you have a PERFECT fit for your Seagate Flash drive!

Great initially but DEAD one month after the 1 year warranty expired,

This WAS my favorite little device. It's slow, as it's a hard drive and not a flash drive. But, for the capacity and price it was unbeatable. That is, until it suddenly locked up and cannot be revived, literally weeks after the meager 1-year warranty expired. A 2 GB Kingston memory stick has a 5 year warranty. I can see why this device has such a short warranty--it's completely unreliable long-term. Check out the other reviews-same problem. 6 months ago I would have given it 5 stars, but the obvious unreliability of the device makes it worthless in the long-term. Too bad Seagate can't raise their manufacturing quality.

It was great...until it died,

I have the 6.0 GB Seagate, which I LOVED (cute, handy, doesn't get lost easily, long cord, easy to use)...until it died. This was really disappointing considering all of the work that was on it and that I bought it just a few months ago. One day, 'The device cannot be started'. I suppose I have learned my lesson about multiple backups (the hard way). Great product...just not dependable. My cheaper and lower GB drives are still working fabulously. If you purchase it, be prepared for only a few good months of use with no warning of failure.

It's unfortunate that others have had difficulty with this drive. I'm a teacher who stores student PowerPoints, Podcasts, Word documents, etc. It has held up well with no problems. I bought the pink Komen edition for my personal use and it has worked equally well. I am a Mac user; I wonder if the problems others are having are from a PC?

Super Drive,

I've had this model drive for over 2 years and I have never had a single problem with it. I take it everywhere with me and I'm not always gentle, but this drive has outdone every expectation I had of it. I know it may not be as fast as over drives, but at the time it was the biggest drive I could get for school and as I said it has taken a beating and still performed flawlessly for me. It's good points outweigh the slow speed.

Excellent Price ($50) And easy to use,

I loved the price on this one. Also, having the USB Cord come out of it helps this drive to fit in any USB slot, no matter what is plugged in around it.It felt a little slow transferring data, but I'm pretty impatient. It's also a bit on the big side. I have already recommended this drive to several people.

This drive is not reliable. Read the other reviews here. Mine died exactly 7 months after I bought it. No chance to recover the data on it either. In addition, the drive speed when it was working is slooooow. You would be much better off with a flash drive.

I have 14(?) active computers from an old 286 (which yes still works), maybe three+ 386s (not all working), three 486's, four Win98's (one dead), three XPs (two on home, but one is dead, remaining one on Prof). I may have forgotten to count a laptop or two.Transferring data between them is a pistol. This little baby can do it for all the Win machines, because it's still on FAT32 (which you can reformat, of course -- but if you have older machines, DON'T reformat it). I also have WD Passport (works with Win98 if you get lucky installing it correctly), Seagate FreeAgent (wonderful, but can't work with Win98), SimpleTech (works on XP only). But of them all, this tiny Seagate 6GB is totally useful between machines. Its only problem is that its cord is too short. But you can solve that problem: just purchase the 3' USB extension cable sold here by and made by, Amazon. I just now received the cable; plugged the USB extension and my current Seagate into my computer. Works great! Thanks, Amazon! Now I'm gonna buy another cable and another of this Seagate drive! Very reliable. The only thing equalling it in portability is, oddly enough, my old WS-110 digital recorder by Olympus. I want to buy another of these, too. On my Wishlist, with 1GB memory. My current one initially cost $60, has only 256MB, bought maybe 2 years ago at Sam's Club? |
