5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect After 6 Months.
I have had my Seagate 250 for about 6 months and have not had any problems. (knock on wood) I keep it in an enclosure (USB 2.0) so I can't attest to the speed of the drive. I use it for backing up photos, music, movies and I have about 100gb left. The HD itself is very quiet. I read alot of reviews before picking this drive. I have had Maxtors, Western Digitals and...

3.0 out of 5 stars Worked for 3 years, then dead
The title says it all--this drive worked flawlessly for 3 years until it failed. I am now contacting Seagate, since this item has a 5-year warranty, thankfully. I have a second drive just like this one, purchased at the same time, that is still working fine.

I have had Maxtors, Western Digitals and Seagates.. out of the three I have only had major issues with Maxtors.

of course I do not keep my External Drives on overnight or for long periods of time. I also keep my drives in pretty cool locations. cheers.

I love this hard drive. It is really very quiet. Seagate makes the best hard drives. They are one of the few companies that stand behind their product with a 5 year warranty. I will only buy from them from now on. Western Digital used to give 5yr warranty but they dropped that to 3yrs. I've been burned 3 times with HD failures within those 3-4yrs after purchased. So far Seagate hasn't let me down.

2.0 out of 5 stars Fail, July 1, 2007
This review is from: Seagate ST3250623A-RK Barracuda 250 GB Ultra ATA/100 Internal Hard Drive (Personal Computers)
I bought 2. 1 started clicking 2 months into use. The other one is still working fine. The clicking one finally failed and became unreadable after about 4 months. Luckily everything was backed up. I had the (now failed) drive in an external HD cage and it seemed to get AWFULLY HOT. That might be why it failed. I have 4 other Seagate drives that I love that run cool and smooth. Heat is really a hard drives biggest enemy. Unless it is a Maxtor drive. Then the Hard Drive itself is it's biggest enemy.

I hate writing this review because I like reviewing stuff only when I'm excited. This HD has been anything but. About 10 days after having installed this exact hard-drive I suddenly got the message "A disk read error occurred" as I tried to re-boot my computer. Luckily the HD is new and I had already made backups. A search in the Internet for this specific error and HD revealed a lot of similar reports from other people.

1.0 out of 5 stars Head crashed...I may have lost ALL my photos of my son, April 9, 2007

This was bought to be used as an external drive. The other day, after about 6 months, I heard the click of death. The drive doesnt work any longer and I hadn't backed up this drive. I may have lost over 2,000 photos, most of my son since he was born, a family home movie, and lots of music (no big deal). Bottom line...Back up and maybe don't buy a Seagate if you like your data.
