Book Description

Nick and Sarah Mysteries May 31, 2001
Nick and Sarah expected sunshine and clean air when they retired to the casual coast of Northern California's Monterey Baynot homicide and dangerbut when her driftwood crafts are stolen and the thief brutally murdered, the good vibes turn weird fast, landing them directly in the path of a deadly fight for high-tech riches. They got lucky with the Fogstalker, but now they're marked by a sadistic opportunist with a frozen soul and, unaware of mounting threats, make perfect targets as the hunters close in. But not even the freaky cast of wannabes, killers, gamblers, and vigilantes that converge on the narrow streets of Aptos can outmaneuver this ex-schoolteacher and this ex-nurse: "retired" doesn't mean "helpless"! So when the corporate heat hits the beach to kick butt, not kick back, better slip on the shades, stay cool, and stand clear for action. You can step on their peace and quiet, but don't ever mess with their family! Retirement will just have to wait.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific second book in a series!, December 18, 2004
This review is from: Seaglass Eyes: a Nick and Sarah Mystery (Nick and Sarah Mysteries) (Paperback)
I read the first book in this series, "Fogstalker," on a friend's recommendation. I was pleasantly surprised to find a taut, well-constructed thriller with very likeable and believable characters. I was then pleasantly surprised to find out that the author, James H. Littlefield, had written another "Nick and Sarah" book, called "Seaglass Eyes." Well, Mr. Littlefield has found a fan in me. "Seaglass Eyes" (by the way, I realize that book titles should be underlined, not put in quotes, but I can't figure out how to do that here.) is a very exciting, fast-paced thriller that has to do with Silicon Valley and technological/industrial espionage. Maybe it's because I live in the Bay Area and have been to many of the locations in the book, but as I read "Seaglass Eyes" I felt like I was watching a movie. The pacing of the plot is excellent and Mr. Littlefield does a fine job of alternating action scenes with smaller scenes that involve more dialogue and plot exposition. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys mysteries and thrillers.

5.0 out of 5 stars High-tech thief goes to the beach!, July 18, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Seaglass Eyes: a Nick and Sarah Mystery (Nick and Sarah Mysteries) (Paperback)
I discovered this book in my local bookstore in Santa Cruz, California. It's part of three "Nick and Sarah" mysteries set right here in my backyard--what a kick!
Since we live near Silicon Valley, industrial theivery is no joke, and the possibility of this plot being true seems real enough to hold my attention even if it weren't written in a fast-moving style that hooked me early and kept me turning pages into the night. Nick and Sarah are a retired schoolteacher and nurse who've moved to the coast to relax, but when a desperate thief has to stash his prize at a beach party, the Worthers are headed for a confrontation with heartless killers with a threat to thier granddaughter forcing cooperation. These guys may be retired, but they're no lightweights!
I don't think you'll be disappointed. It's an entertaining read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Comments by a avid mystery story reader, August 8, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Seaglass Eyes: a Nick and Sarah Mystery (Nick and Sarah Mysteries) (Paperback)
If you are a reader who enjoys a fast-moving mystery story with a lot of local color, this book is for you. The story is set in Silicon Valley and the nearby Santa Cruz beach area and portrays a seamy side of competition for "break-through" silicon-chip products. Two beach community residents, a retired school teacher and a nurse, are drawn into the intrigue surrounding the theft of a revolutionary new product and become deeply involved in the action. The story has several colorful characters, including a gang of very violent men who are searching for the stolen device in the employ of the rightful owner of the chip, but who have other plans for disposing of it when they recover it. The action starts at a company party on a beach in Aptos, near Santa Cruz, and moves rapidly to other places in the area and to Silicon Valley. I found the book hard to put down and was impressed with how well the author handled a complicated plot without losing the reader in details. I am looking forward to reading the author's latest book, "Cool Deal".
