5.0 out of 5 stars A pioneering study, April 17, 2000
This review is from: Seagoing Ships & Seamanship in the Bronze Age Levant (Hardcover)
In his book Shelley Wachsmann furnishes an original and pioneering study on the situation of the Levant seas in the Bronze Age. Beginning from the Predinastic Nile Valley, analyzes the navy of the levant cultures (Syro-Canaanite Littoral, Cyprus, Aegean area, Minoan/Cycladic navy, Mycenean/Achean navy, Sea Peoples) looking for the archaeological and documental comparisons , even not neglecting the possible collations between the different areas. In the second part of the study, the author examine the aspects of maritime activities, departing from the ships construction and navigation to arrive up to the seas laws. A valuable glossary and a very ample bibliography conclude this really exhaustive text, suited for whoever is really interested to the nautical archaeology and the navigation in the ancient Mediterranean.
