4.0 out of 5 stars Great Parlor Guitar, Great Value!, October 26, 2009
This review is from: Seagull Coastline Grand Guitar (Electronics)
I recently decided I wanted a smaller guitar, and since I own a Seagull Original S6 and am very happy with it, one of the brands I looked into was Seagull. The Coastline Grand has a solid cedar top and laminated cherry back and sides, like the S6, but unlike the S6 it has a narrower neck - 1.72. It's also got 14 frets above the body, which I think is a big plus, so I decided to go for it.

My Coastline Grand is as well made as my S6 - no surprise since Seagull offers consistently high build quality. The semi gloss finish feels good and looks nice, and everything was good. True, it needs a setup, but I like particularly low action, so every guitar I get needs a setup. The only thing I'm not thrilled with is the nut width, and the guitar is still very playable.

This guitar sounds especially good to me when strummed or fingerpicked softly. That's when you get the mellow cedar overtones. Played harder, it's got a brighter, midrangy sound that is surprisingly loud. If you don't care for that type of sound, just throw a set of Silk and Steel strings on it. While some of the more expensive parlors do have more bottom end, this one isn't a very bass-rich guitar, but it does sound good.

The bottom line - if you're looking for a smaller guitar, particularly a parlor, this is a guitar you should definitely check out. Good sound, build quality, finish and tuners - plus customer service is good about answering emails. I'm very happy with my Seagull Coastline Grand, and expect to be playing it for many years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Coastline Grand is awesome!, July 2, 2010

I just got back into playing and wanted something to sit comfortably with & decided on the Seagull grand. This parlor sized guitar is awesome! not many frills but a good looking guitar, very well put together. It is made in Canada so I presume all the woods to be from North America :) action right out of the box was perfect, low no buzz very well set up.
I purchased my Seagull right here on Amazon for less money than Ebay or any other store who sells the Godin line of guitars. If you are looking for a backpacking guitar or one just to sit comfortably with this is the one! I believe Seagull may discontinue or have already discontinued this guitar, musicians friend have no more and list this guitar as discontinued so hurry my guitar picking friends! go for it you will not be sorry. A GREAT PRODUCT IF LOST IT I WOULD BUY AGAIN IF I COULD.
Watch some vids on the Seagull line of guitars on youtube, they have some there with pickers using the grand, great stuff.

4.0 out of 5 stars Seagull Coastline Grand Guitar, April 5, 2010

I am very please with this parlor size guitar. I own a Baby Taylor and like it as well. There is a big difference in tone. The Seagull Grand is much fuller sounding, and pleasing to the ear. Of course it isn't like a full size guitar. I wanted another small size guitar to drag around with me and this one fit the bill.
I would recommend this guitar. My only complaint is, it's a little on the heavy side. Other than that it's very good. If there was a half star I would have given it a 4 1/2 star rating.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Entry-level Guitar, October 26, 2009

I am a somewhat small woman who is just learning how to play guitar. I looked at the Seagull S6, but felt like it was just a bit too large for me to be comfortable with. After trying out a few smaller-sized guitars, I settled on the Seagull Coastline Grand, which is a parlor-sized guitar that has a great sound and fit me perfectly. The smaller neck and body are great, and it sounds better than the other ones I tried in a similar size and price range.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seagull Coastline Grand Guitar Review, April 16, 2010

This review is from: Seagull Coastline Grand Guitar (Electronics)
The seagull coastline grand guitar is one of the best newer parlor guitars I've ever played. The tone is amazing. This guitar went from thin, and tinning, to a nice fat parlor guitar sound. This is the only guitar, where I can feel the hole guitar vibrating as I play it. The solid cedar top, the 3 ply laminate cherry back, and sides, the neck, and the fingerboard vibrate too. When you put some muscle into this guitar, and really play it, you can hear all the nice overtones.

If you don't like this guitar at first give it a chance, once the soundboard, and every other component breaks in, you will be amazed. The more you play this guitar the better it sounds.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Nice Parlor Guitar, November 21, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Seagull Coastline Grand Guitar (Electronics)
I bought this guitar sight unseen based on the quality of the other Seagull guitars I've played and owned. I was not disappointed. The action was flawless and the guitar played very well right out of the box. This is definitely a guitar that likes to be finessed. You can't bang on this guitar like you would with a full sized dreadnought. This guitar loves to be tuned down a half-step and really shines when finger picked. The guitar has a very rich tone with sweet sounding highs and mids, and very nice lows. It's perfect for smaller, more intimate settings. I bought this guitar to have something to play while deployed overseas without having to worry about losing too much money if it was damaged from the heat, but after playing it for a few months, I would buy this guitar again without hesitation. It will fit right in with my more expensive acoustic instruments back home. Just an awesome guitar and worth every penny. The bang for your buck factor is off the charts with this one. Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet Little Guitar, October 1, 2011

These are sweet little guitars. Godin (the Canadian firm which builds Seagull, Simon & Patrick, Art & Luthierie guitars) really does a good job with their cedar-topped guitars. This little box is really quite powerful and stout...it puts out some respectable volume and "oompf" while offering the convenience of a readily portable size. The voice is warm and even up and down the neck.

The construction quality is among the best of the low-end builders...very clean inside and out.

Mine had a setup on the high side and needed a fret leveling/dressing to get it totally dialed in, but this is common on inexpensive guitars.

If you're looking for the portablilty of a small body guitar with a "big voice", this is one to consider.

I just received my Grand today and I love it! I have a La Patrie Motif as well which is the same guitar body but classical. Both guitars are great, Seagull and La Patrie are both sub companies of Godin, and are handmade in the village of La Patrie in Quebec. Really nice guitars, love the compact size. The headstock of the Grand is striking and unique, and the neck is so comfortable to play on. Really lovely sound as well. No setup required for mine, plays great right out of the box. I highly recommend both La Patrie and Seagull, you can't go wrong with them!

5.0 out of 5 stars Seagull parlor guitar, April 18, 2011

After reading all the good reviews for the Seagull guitars I decided on buying one. I have a D body guitar so I wanted something different. That was why I decided on the Seagull Coastline Grand.
The workmanship of the Seagull guitars are great. I wouldn't expect much better in a much more expensive guitar. The semi-gloss finish looks great. The action of the guitar was great out of the box. It is low and easy to play. This little guitar doesn't have the booming bass that a D-body guitar has but it does have a nice sound. I have seen the sound improve over the month that I have had it. What some reviewer said about the whole guitar vibrating, even the neck, is true. I think that this guitars sound will continue to improve over the years.

I wouldn't recommend this guitar for and only guitar but it is a fun addition if you want some different or like collecting. Also it would be great for a first guitar for a child to learn on. Small and easy to hold and easy on the fingers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Made in Canada, June 30, 2010

I had been looking for another smaller acoustic guitar for a couple of years. I wanted a smaller size with the scale between 24.75 to 25.5 but not that small as those 3/4 or some other parlor guitars. I wasted some money to buy a Dean and then a Luna that made me very disappointed. Finally I found this great little axe. Action likes a Gibson LP, sounds like my other 00 Martin. Trust me! You won't be sorry. Made in Canada! I think sooner or later it will be a discontinued item cuz if everybody spend less to buy this model and who's going to buy other SeaGull's regular size guitars?
