I purchased this guitar, a Seagull Entourage Grand Rustic parlor guitar, from a local music store about a month ago. I went in with the intention of buying a Loar but came out with this guitar instead. It had an overall better sound, feel and was more comfortable for me to play with it's reduced scale length. I'm very pleased with the purchase month later. This guitar is eminently playable. It is a small bodied guitar with a short (24.84'') scale length. It's ideal as a "main" guitar for everyday use (you do play every day, don't you?) or as a "travel" guitar for those on the go. It's a small guitar (but full sized, just "reduced" size) in body but not in tone. While you won't get the bass response in any small bodied guitar that you will get in a mini-jumbo or dread, this guitar has plenty of low end. The highs are silky and clear. It doesn't muddy up when played in the mid-range and has a nice warm bass presence. The overall tone is excellent. The playability of the guitar is off the charts. It's very comfortable, especially for smaller stature players or even kids although I personally wouldn't spend 360 bucks on a kids guitar but that's just me... I found the price to be in line with other instruments in the range and the fit and finish is superior to others in it's class. The best part is perhaps that this is NOT an Asian made guitar (although the Chinese and Indonesians *can* and *do* produce some excellent instruments) but rather is made in Quebec, Canada, by hand, in a shop that has been building acoustic guitars for over a quarter of a century. All Seagull instruments are excellent in quality, fit and finish. This Entourage Grand Rustic parlor is no different. The sunburst vintage finish is gorgeous. It's a beautiful instrument.Read more ›

Got this guitar to replace a Taylor GS Mini for traveling. I liked the GS Mini, but it was too expensive for me to travel with without feeling nervous, and I wasn't crazy about the tone… it wasn't bad, but wasn't memorable.

Like most parlor guitars, you can expect the Grand to be a little thuddier in the bass, and the overall sound to be less symphonic (?)... That said, I find this guitar has great character, and it's very responsive and playable. At first, the tone was disappointingly tight… sounded thin and hollow. But about 2 months in, the cedar top really opened up! Sustain and volume both impressive. If anything, it became too bright and aggressive for me, so I switched to the mellower Martin Silk and Steel strings and the tone hit an amazing sweet spot.

I had considered the well-reviewed Arts & Lutherie Ami guitar as well (same company as Seagull) and loved its bluesy sound. But with the Silk and Steel strings on the Grand, it's gotten pretty close to that vibe while still maintaining its rich tone and sustain. Both strumming and finger style, this guitar just feels very alive. It doesn't compare to my more expensive "at-home" 00-size guitar in sound and build quality, but I still play it just as much because it's fun to pick up.

For the record, this guitar is roughly 1.5" longer than the GS Mini at around 38". Also, I received a broken one at first (not this seller), so keep an eye out. I hear this is common with acoustic guitars. It also looked very dry out of the box… I recommend putting some oil (i.e.: F-One oil) on the bridge and fretboard, watch the cool grain patterns come to life.

No surprises. A great sounding guitar, but lacking volume. Stays in tune pretty well. I have long fingers and a mid-sized hand, and the fretboard is great.

A very nice parlor guitar. Wonderful tone and so much fun to play! The size makes it very easy to handle.
