W. W. Norton proudly announces the Seagull Readers, a new collection of the most frequently taught essays. Ideal for genre or introductory literature courses, the Seagull Readers offer a compact and affordable alternative to larger anthologies. Each volume includes a wide selection of both classic and contemporary works, as well as a thorough introduction to each genre and biographies of the authors.

An inexpensive and portable alternative to bulky anthologies, The Seagull Reader: Essays offers 35 essays, from time-honored classics such as Jonathan Swift's "A Modest Proposal" and George Orwell's "Politics and the English Language" to contemporary classics by Maya Angelou, Barbara Ehrenreich, Brent Staples, and Amy Tan, among others. The Seagull Reader: Essays is lightly supplemented by editorial apparatus, including an introduction to the major concepts of the genre, brief headnotes, annotations where necessary, a glossary of terms, and biographical sketches of each author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essays, February 8, 2008

Although somewhat abstract, most of the essays in this book are really fun to read. I ordered this book, and I received a different cover than the picture shows. Don't worry, it is the same book, and works with my English Composition class.

1.0 out of 5 stars The Seagull Reader Essays Second Edition, February 7, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Seagull Reader: Essays (Paperback)
It wasn't the second edition. I found it by search ISBN number, so it should have been the right book. It only cost .01 plus shipping and handling but it anyways it is money and wrong book. I had to buy a new one for 24.95.Didnt have time to send back and reorder. But that's my loss. I will never do this again. My moto now is touch before you buy with books.
