Product Description

The Seagull S6 Guitar--The Original, Updated with Godin QI

Winner of several awards, the S6 is perhaps the instrument that best represents the Seagull philosophy. The S6 offers entry level players the opportunity to experience the great feel and superb sound provided by a hand finished neck, select solid Cedar top and a Custom Polished Finish.

The back and sides are constructed of wild cherry, the neck of silver-leaf maple, and a rosewood fingerboard and bridge.

Seagull guitars all feature Tusq nuts and saddles. The fully compensated saddle helps the Seagull S6 original acoustic guitar play beautifully in-tune all over the neck.

About the Godin QI

The Godin EPM Quantum acoustic guitar system is simple in design and outstanding in performance. This single source system features an exceptionally responsive saddle transducer carefully matched to side mount electronics with rotary volume, bass, and treble controls. The electronics and controls are packaged in a small and easy to use format complemented with a finely crafted pewter cover plate. In combination with the transducer, the EQ control range and frequency content have been specifically contoured to provide a very rich and full sound reproduction resulting in performance seen only in far more complex systems.

The Godin Q1 also includes a built-in high quality digital chromatic tuner with LED display.

Operating Suggestions
Before plugging in for the first time, adjust Quantum volume to minimum (fully counterclockwise) and set bass and treble at midrange. Plug into endpin jack and amplifier. Increase volume slowly to desired level. Adjust bass and treble to desired level.

The Seagull Original Guitar Series

The guitars that make up the Seagull Original series represent one of the world's outstanding values in acoustic guitars. The back and sides of the Original series models are made from a three-layer lamination of Wild Cherry wood. With a sound that lands somewhere between the mellow tone of a Mahogany guitar and the bright sound of Maple, Wild Cherry has proven itself to be an excellent tone wood. Grown locally, Wild Cherry is also a choice. Original series guitars feature very smooth necks made from Silver Leaf Maple.

All Seagull Guitars Feature Reverse Headstocks

Each Seagull neck starts out as a single piece of Mahogany or Silver Leaf Maple. The wood is cut at a 45 degree angle after which the top piece - the Headstock - is glued back on with the grain reversed. This is an essential step in the Seagull process for creating incredibly stable necks.

More About Seagull Guitars

The Seagull story wouldn't be complete without mentioning La Patrie. La Patrie is a small village in the Eastern Townships of Quebec. This is where the first Seagulls were made in the early eighties. Today, La Patrie has a population of about 475 and about half of these people are guitar builders. These folks take a great deal of pride in the guitars they build.

This guitar is amazing, I'm coming in to the acoustic realm with about a year and half of electric only experience. I was looking at the non-electronic version of this but I figured I was going to install one down the line anyway so I opted for this, QI option.

Pros:

Sounds mellow, but warm. I had previously ordered a Yamaha FG730, but it was way too bright and "cheery". This guitar has that perfect soft but strong tone you would want for leaving people in tears after finishing an acoustic solo.

The looks - sure, it is artificial but you're going to be in front of people so it helps. The wild cherry back and sides are outstanding, when I first opened the package I just sat and stared at the grain.

Setup - typically you always setup a new guitar, adjusting the truss rod, maybe sanding the saddle a bit.. but this guitar actually arrived in tune! The action is set, at what I call medium height - coming from an electric background, which is totally playable without any adjustments.

The neck - another pet peeve of mine is how a neck feels, if it doesn't feel "right" in my hand then I don't want to play it. This neck feels perfect - to me it feels like a medium-thin neck but with the extra width it feels just right in my medium sized male hands.

QI System - while I don't use the tuner the output from all six strings is even, which is important as most entry level accoustic-electrics have problems with this. Running through a tiny 15w amp with everything at 12 a clock it sounds like a dream.

Customer Service - I had emailed the company (Seagull/Godin) with some questions about the S6, Entourage, etc and they answered the same day (sometimes within an hour) and helped me decide which one.

This guitar is an excel[ant value, the best guitar for the money out there (and I've done a LOT of research!) and a finger pickers delight! Action was great right out of the box and sounds like a much more expensive instrument. Bluegrass flatpickers and heavy strummers may want to look at SPRUCE top Seagulls. Cedar tops, like this one, respond best to finger-style picking and lighter to average strumming.
My only complaint was the packaging for shipping, Mine, from Amazon BTW, was lightly damaged in shipping due to being packed very lightly. Damage was cosmetic only, the guitar sounded wonderful, so I didn't return it. Guitar sounds great played acoustically and through an amp (I use a Fishman Artist amp). Would buy again if something happened to this one, I recommend Seagull to everyone.

Edit: The price went up by about $120 since I bought this guitar from Amazon in Jan 2013. It is still a very good value. It is an unbelievable value at 409 bucks. Still a good value at 530.

I've been playing guitar for 25 years. I've played a lot of nice, expensive guitars. This is my second S6. I bought one about 12 years ago and it "got broke" (epic fail and a long story I will not go into).

The Seagull S6 is a VALUE guitar. You cannot get a new guitar this nice, made in North America, for this price. And the price for the Q1 (electronics) version was only eight bucks more than the regular S6. Eight bucks! I don't understand how they can make money selling it at this price! In fact, I paid more for my S6 12 years ago then I did for this new one.

I've never bought a guitar online before this one. I've always played my guitars, sometime for hours, before I bought one. However, much to the dismay of the local music shop, I am extremely happy with this purchase from amazon.

The guitar was in a wrapped a foam-like material then placed in a thick cardboard, semi-triangular box that had a stable hold the guitar. That box was then placed in a thick cardboard rectangular box. There was probably a total of a half inch of cardboard around the guitar. I was worried about the guitar getting damaged in shipping. There were some scuffs and scraped and even a small hole in the outer cardboard box. But the inner box was fine and the guitar itself was in pristine shape.

The guitar came out of the box with nice action and no buzzing. I don't need to get it tuned up, but it would benefit from it a little bit, perhaps dropping the action a tiny amount. But it was totally playable out of the box.

I received my new Seagull on the predicted day and could barely wait to get home to see her! The packaging did look a little sparse, as some others have reported, but the box was intact, and not damaged at all. After opening the box and removing the foam wrapping , all I could do was just grin from ear to ear while my wife took a picture of the two of us, (the guitar and I). I carefully inspected from one end to the other and couldn't find a single blemish. The fit and finish on this fine instument is beyond belief. I am just a beginning guitarist, but playing my new Seagull is so much easier than the old guitar I had, that I know I will improve much more quickly now.
I hardly see how anyone could go wrong with a Seagull. I have tried out and played guitars costing up to thousands of dollars, and none of them sounded any better to me than what I now own. Perhaps to an advanced guitarist, there may be a discernable difference, but at my level, I am perfectly satisfied!
Watch the videos on the Seagull website, then go try one at your local guitar store. I did this, then saved about $200 here at Amazon. Yes, I am one happy camper!
