There is a Wind from the album A Chorus of Storytellers

A 10-year anniversary is a time to reflect. In a relationship, it's a chance to recount the first date; to remember the awkward pauses and the eventual connection. For musicians, a 10-year anniversary is a time to look back on their first album and see how far they've come from those earliest recordings. The new Album Leaf album A Chorus of Storytellers, marks the first decade for the ... Read more in Amazon's The Album Leaf Store

Product Description

Originally released in Spain in 2003, this very special version of The Album Leaf’s Seal Beach EP is finally released in the United States! The Seal Beach EP on Better Looking features four songs from the original EP, plus "For Jonathan," which replaces an original. In addition, Jimmy LaValle has handpicked five live performances from his tour with Sigur Ros, included as bonus tracks – and it’s all wrapped up in a beautiful digipack. The Album Leaf is Jimmy LaValle, a classically trained, prolific pianist and musician whose ambitious projects have involved San Diego’s seminal ambient post-rock outfit Tristeza, noise punks The Locust and the gloomy, brooding epic-core Black Heart Procession. This special domestic release of the Seal Beach EP follows the recent success of The Album Leaf’s critically acclaimed full-length In a Safe Place on Sub Pop Records.

"Warm electronic sounds and mesmerisingly beautiful orchestral post-rock music to make your spine tingle and your heart swell." -- BBC

5.0 out of 5 stars a star for each song February 26, 2004
By Mike
Format:Audio CD
i was recomended this over their full length 'one day i'll be on time' by the place i ordered it from. although i'm glad they helped me save some money, i am also very curious to see what 'odibot' sounds like. but for the time being, i am very happy i bought this mini cd. the songs are slow and beautiful and they have a lot of keyboard, piano, whatever cool noises they want. i am a big fan of this, so i fell in love right away. this band (or guy) has just signed onto sub pop, which is cool, and i think they are releasing a full length by summer, but check them out now.

4.0 out of 5 stars Music to live by April 28, 2005
Format:Audio CD
Part of this ep was recorded at The Tabernacle in Atlanta, GA. The Album Leaf opened for Sigur Ros, when Jimmy came out to play I was just looking forward to Sigur Ros, but then the music started, it was really Awesome!! The Album Leaf plays really good music, a soundtrack for everyday life. Love the "MP" (this cd) and "Glisten" from in an off white room. It's music that allows you to take a deep breath and slow down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great recording from The Album Leaf August 31, 2013

I've been a leaf fan for a while. My favorite thing about them is their use of the Rhodes electric piano. "Seal Beach" is a great album for relaxing, or studying, etc. Highlights of this album for me include the song "Brennivin." Also, the bonus tracks were great, for example, live versions of "MP" and "Essex."

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully Serene January 17, 2013
By M. Ware
Format:Audio CD
This album is satisfying and gorgeous. This is a perfect album to listen to when you want to be alone and think. Each song helps melt away the worries of the day, allows you to reflect and just simply be. The second half contains live versions of their songs that blend harmoniously well together. Press play, take a deep breath, sit back and relax. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars good vibrations January 30, 2011

good, good, good, good vibrations. soft & subtle sounds. not boring, just soothing. the music can be likened to that of wind chimes, in that the tones repeat, sometimes randomly, sometimes in organized patterns, but that's not a slam. who doesn't like wind chimes? you won't hear these compositions played during an NCAA basketball timeout or during the SuperBowl halftime show, but that's not their place. it's really nice rhythmic, ambient music and - bop, bop, excitation - in that context.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty, but pretty unnecessary December 26, 2007
By IRate
Format:Audio CD
A decent ep introducing the uninitiated into The Album Leaf's mellow and melodic world of guitar-driven instrumentals. Most of these five tracks do not particularly stand out, offering instead an accessible overview of the Triztesa frontman's dreamy and slightly challenging musical world.
